Cap political donations at 8 hours wages at the fed minimum: $58. That way an Amazon warehouse worker would have equal clout with Jeff Bezos.
@welch.senate.gov Tell Schumer to exchange that linear blob of jello for a real spine and reject any budget bill that keeps the cuts to ACA. Hold firm and let the GOP destroy itself.

Has anyone else noticed National Weather Service rain predictions getting erratic? The amount of rain predicted two days in advance jumps around randomly every few hours. From 0.68" to 0.2" to 0.45" to 0.11". It used to be more steady, or at least progress in a direction.

Stephen Colbert should have Jimmy Kimmel on as his first guest and say "Excuse me for a minute" and let Jimmy do the show. Then Seth Meyers should do it, then John Oliver, Jimmy Fallon, and the Daily Show. A late night "I am Spartacus."

Jimmy Kimmell should sue the Trump administration for a huge amount for violating his 1st Amendment rights, but he should stipulate that he will halve his demand in exchange for a release of the full Epstein files. They won't bite, but it will be yet more proof that Trump is incriminated.

Becca Balint did the cowardly thing and voted to honor Kirk. She's turning into Peter Welch in real time. They both need a Mamdani to replace them.

Just like Canada…sigh…we get people to come in from all over the world (esp. South Korea) to set up our manufacturing plants and train our workers. This guy is right #cdnpoli

Let's remember Alabama's effort to get rid of immigrant workers in 2012. The leg passed a law that drove out 80k of them. Alabama's ag sector collapsed. Crops rotted. The food processing sector collapsed, along with construction. They lost $11 billion in 11 months and repealed the law.

When discussing climate change and energy use, remember the 1/10, 10/50, 50/10 rule.

The richest 1% in the world use 10% of the energy.
The richest 10% use 50%.
The poorest 50% use 10%.

Conservation should start with private jets and work its way down.

We can’t let weird stuff like the actual, rock bottom crime rates affect our number one industry, which is the imaginary crime industrial
complex
1. This week, the FBI released its comprehensive crime report for 2024, which revealed that both VIOLENT CRIME and PROPERTY CRIME reached their LOWEST LEVELS SINCE THE 1960s

This a massive story. But you might not have heard about it, even if you follow the news closely.

Here's why.
Why you might not know that 2024 was America's safest year since the 1960s
An overwhelming majority of Americans, 64 percent, believe that crime increased across the country in 2024, according to a Gallup survey conducted late last year.

Now that Musk is gone and Trump can't remember that he appointed Jerome Powell, I think we can start calling this the Stephen Miller presidency.

Extremely important article on reassortment, H5N1, and pandemic potential. As I've said before, if the situation in the US regarding bird flu had happened in 2019, it would be treated like the grave emergency it is.

Gene-Swaps Could Let Influenza Jump Species
Influenza viruses like bird flu can mix and match their genomes, and this has played a role in at least three of the last four flu pandemics

My neighbor just went to a big box store and there were no tarps. There had been two weeks ago. Employee said none were on order.

I checked a live marine traffic map and US harbors appear almost empty of Chinese container ships. Maybe it's empty shelves time.

With the passage of the GOP budget, once again it will be Leopards Eating Faces time.

No doubt the Leopards Eating Faces Party will tell its base that those large spotted cats chewing on them are actually immigrants and trans people.

Note that at the very end of the clip Biden stops people from cheering him out of respect for the bereaved. Humility. Respect. Thinking of others. What we have lost.
I miss the days when we had a compassionate President. This was yesterday at the funeral of Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her Husband. (and their dog too 😢)

Meanwhile, the current "president" spent his day golfing and making sure no disabled people are seen at his events.

As soon as Mamdani becomes mayor he should promote a rule: Any fed, state, or muni officer in NYC detaining people must be in uniform, display a badge, display a name tag, and have their face uncovered. Otherwise it's treated as a kidnapping.

Iran's parliament has voted to cut off the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's oil is shipped.

Iran has sophisticated truck-launched anti-ship missiles with ranges up to 1000 km.

How entirely predictable.

The folks at Lloyds of London and other maritime insurers are probably having a working weekend. Iran and the Houthis in Yemen have anti-ship missiles that can hit any oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, the Bab-al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden. Just takes one.

All the saber rattling against Iran reminds me of MC '02, a US military wargame simulating conflict with Iran. A retired Marine general ran the Iran red team and sank most of the Fifth Fleet in 20 minutes.

Iran has many anti-ship missiles and can cut off Persian Gulf oil shipping at will.
