A lot of people I know on here are interested in Active Travel so I thought I'd share this pretty nerdy but interesting OpenStreetMap talk about pedestrian routing, the way infrastructure affects it and how careful mapping can help.

X should be banned in the UK and/or directors held accountable for enforcing the law.
Vile abuse enabled by Elon Musk's Grok platform has been shared on X by Bella Wallerstein, in which users to post then Grok sexualises an AI image of her outside Auschwitz gates as a concentration camp victim.

She tweets "this place is beyond saving"

I was at a book signing for Jay Foreman and Mark Cooper Jones new book, "This Way Up: When Maps Go Wrong" but was too shy to ask them for a selfie, so got a selfie with Foreman's parents instead.

I saw Mick Jones of The Clash chatting to two fans on a street corner. If it wasn't for my friend pointing him out, I wouldn't have recognised him, he's aged a lot since the "Should I Stay or Should I Go" video, weirdly.

Charlie Brooker once held the gate open for me as I went into a playground with my son. My son completely ignored his despite my suggestion "go and play with that boy over there, his dad is really cool!"

I took a call from Norman Lovett (Holly from Red Dwarf) on a tech support line. He didn't understand my answer and called back in the hope of speaking to someone else, but got back to me (there were only about 12 of us working the shift)

On my Fairphone 5, every time I switch away from an app for more than a minute, it seems to just lose the current state of the app so I need to restart whatever I'm doing. It makes the phone almost unusable. Am I the only person this is happening to?

It's the least important element to this, but I find it fascinating on an aesthetic level too.

Americans are watching a bootleg broadcast that someone in Canada recorded off their TV. And people are copying it to various platforms (however imperfect visually) to get it out as widely as possible.

Many of us would, I’m sure, like to think we’d be brave (and smart) enough to do something like this in an absolutely terrifying moment like that. But I can only imagine the mental and physical effects you have to overcome

Intense respect for this man, Ahmed Al Ahmed. An honest to goodness hero.
Independent video (verified by the NYTimes) shows a local Bondi Beach unarmed bystander sneaking up behind one of the gunman today and tackling him to disarm him.

Unsurprised to discover that targeted homophobia by a UK citizen against another UK citizen doesn't breach Facebook's community standards. 🙄

Have Google removed the option to sort Google Photos by size, helping to free up space?

These are the two nearest Lime bikes to me, a five minute walk from home. Neither is ridable, one has a completely flat tyre, the other has no chain. Lime know this because I tried renting both and ended both rentals immediately with a fault report. But screenshots were taken after the report.

This is a brilliant book full of surprising and amusing stories of how the borders we take for granted ended up where they are. I feel like I understand the world a bit better having read it!

I hate riding on the pavement. When I'm riding southbound across Kew Bridge, I stay in the carriageway because there is enough space (though I imagine it annoys some drivers).

In case anyone is thinking of switching to the Three mobile phone network, it's one of those networks that when you call customer services, ensures that you can never speak to a human being. Steer clear!

True, but the point here is that scrapping floating bus stops doesn't address the issue that Zebra Crossings across roads are the same danger, yet my campaign to replace all Zebra Crossings with instant response pelican crossings is getting no traction from the anti-bus stop bypass crowd.

Fines for pouring coffee down the drain is unfair, but urban pollution is the biggest hurdle for healthy inner city rivers.

I've had to complain to Lime for the second time about an unhandled path in their rental terms. Ealing now has designated parking rules.
