A few certain facts:

US theft of Venezuelan oil won't make a long-term difference to America - which is moving away from outdated tech, despite the nonsense Trump spouts.

By contrast, Chinese theft of the Taiwanese semiconductor industry will give the Chinese control of tomorrow's tech.

Amazing how quickly the question of whether or not the US military would obey illegal orders has disappeared from public conversation.

We had our answer over the weekend.

1. The US has removed Maduro, but not Maduro's government.

2. No-one seems to have asked the Venezuelan people what they think of US oil corporations taking their oil.

3. Oil corporations paid Trump's election campaign close to $100 billion. That wasn't charity; Venezuelan oil is the payback

I remember when they were saying they were powerless to return a man they illegally sent to an El Salvador gulag because it would violate that country's national sovereignty.

The US is not at war with Venezuela because Congress has not authorised a war with Venezuela.

Anything Trump and Hegseth have done - everything from murdering random fishermen, to invading a third country that didn't present a threat, to kidnapping and renditoning its leader - are simpy illegal.

We've learned that the US is quite comfortable kidnapping a president widely thought to have cheated the electoral process to win power, a felon grifting his economy for personal financial benefit, an authoritarian who has cracked down on dissent, the press, the judiciary.

Join the dots.

Where will Trump's son get his cocaine from now?
January 3, 2026 at 5:28 PM
Because Venezuela isn't a major drugs exporter to the US, the volume of narcotics entering the US won't be affected by yesterday's illegal invasion.

They'll have to do something more.

Mexico is next.

How is Trump going to 'run' Venezuela without sending in ground troops?

Venezuela is to divert attention from his ankles.

Kidnapping Maduro is only part one - the easy part.

How does Trump parlay this into something he actually wants.

Here's my guess.

1. Maduro will be tried, found guilty and sentenced to a long stretch.
2. Trump will then offer Maduro a pardon, in return for access to Venezuelan oil.

Wish people would stop asking why Trump has invaded Venezuela and kidnapped its president. The reason is obvious: Trump wants Venezuelan oil

The Tories are going to make a lot of noise in coming days - blaming Labour for allowing Alaa Abd El-Fattah into the UK and shouting for him to be stripped of his UK citizienship.

Reminder: he was granted citizenship in 2022 by the very Tories who now want to throw him out of the UK.
December 29, 2025 at 12:01 PM
Now watch as the Tories (Chris Philp, #r4today) line up to call for Alaa Abdel Fattah to be stripped of his citizenship - for a tweet.

How many examples are there of Tories complaining about people being jailed for disagreeable tweets and dooming about the end of free speech?
