The other day on my walk to work this owl landed on some power lines. They're such beautiful creatures.

You can't logic your way out of being burnt out. Unless you're me. Who should be able to do it and it's a personal failing that I can't

A hike up Mount Braden with good friends was a perfect way to start a long weekend and remind me what I am thankful for. 💛

Israel killed this woman’s daughter in Gaza and she still has family in Palestine.

She’s been with demonstrators following Mark Carney around Montreal today.

But she was arrested.

Apparently, she was too loud while trying to get Mark Carney to care about her family.

Here’s what she told me:

Penhill Watermelon and Cafe au Lait are hitting their stride in the garden this week.

You could hit the buffet with these dinner plates.

The dahlias and snaps were begging to be cut today.

I got some baking in today, as well. Decided to make scones with the raspberries from the back yard.

Café au Lait #dahlia giving it's first blooms of the season.

Can't get enough of these fluffy little idiots. It's interesting how much more relaxed this batch is compared to the last one. I'm guessing having 24 together is less stressful on them then when I raised just two.

I can easily pick these ones up without much of a problem.

Two more baby #quail hatched overnight, bringing the total to 25. This gives me a hatch rate of 76%, which is way better than my first run.

I really needed a win here and it feels great to see some success.

First successful #coturnixquail hatch in the books.

Salmon farms are absolutely disgusting and have no place in our oceans.
This is what factory fish farms don’t want you to see. 🎥

Federal underwater inspection footage from an experimental fish farm near Tofino shows the sea floor under the farm covered in fish feces & feed.

In a week that keeps throwing challenges my way... Last night our broody hen passed away while sitting on her eggs. She was very determined and rarely got up off of them. Food and water was always nearby but she just wouldn't eat.

Incubator failures are heartbreaking and I feel like just giving up. Anyone have any advice or words of encouragement?
June 20, 2025 at 3:59 PM
Third failed incubation. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm getting very discouraged.

I think photo radar should be used in every school and construction zone. Hell, they can pepper them in along all roads and highways. Instant enforcement or a nice way to collect funds for the municipality.

In the late-1950s and early-1960s, the Canadian government subjected any federal employee suspected of being gay to tests on what was termed The Fruit Machine.
Many employees lost their jobs following the tests.
This is the story of The Fruit Machine.

Michelle Douglas was an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces with an exemplary service record.
Then, in 1989, she was suddenly dismissed because she was "not advantageously employable due to homosexuality".
Her court case changed Canadian history.
