The other day on my walk to work this owl landed on some power lines. They're such beautiful creatures.

I've forgotten the name of this one, but I love the colour.

Penhill Watermelon and Cafe au Lait are hitting their stride in the garden this week.

You could hit the buffet with these dinner plates.

The dahlias and snaps were begging to be cut today.

I got some baking in today, as well. Decided to make scones with the raspberries from the back yard.

Can't get enough of these fluffy little idiots. It's interesting how much more relaxed this batch is compared to the last one. I'm guessing having 24 together is less stressful on them then when I raised just two.

I can easily pick these ones up without much of a problem.

Two more baby #quail hatched overnight, bringing the total to 25. This gives me a hatch rate of 76%, which is way better than my first run.

I really needed a win here and it feels great to see some success.

A particularly photogenic loaf of bread to accompany some homemade pasta, home raised quail on a bed of home grown greens and broccoli.

Today's harvest includes kale, mustard greens and shoots, oregano, parsley, shungiku, two types of lettuce, broccoli, radish, pea shoots and a dozen quail eggs.

First baby #quail hatched here at the homestead. I can see a couple siblings on their way. Fingers crossed for safe hatching.

Day 18 and hatching should be imminent. I'm really hoping I come home to some baby #quail tonight from work.

Lupin season is here. I always wanted to grow these back in Sask but the harsh winters gave me less than stellar results.

These are from seed I started last year and I just love seeing them bloom.

My first bouquet of the season featuring: anemone, sage and chive blossoms, yarrow and forget me not.

From the 32 quail I received on Tuesday, too many were boys and they were harassing the ladies something fierce. With an incoming 10 chicks I had to thin them out.

Delicious results.

And on my walk to work I came across this handsome California quail. They're not related to my Coturnix quail, but they're just as cute.
