Q for UK #skystorians - has anyone who is NOT AN ECR won a 'traditional' style grant recently, e.g. pays for your time & expenses to go to archives/do oral history, write up findings, run a workshop for colleagues, do small amount of community feedback/forward and/or public engagement, or similar?

In a bishop's register, I have a new incumbent swearing upon the 'Holy Gospels of God' (ad sancta Dei Evangelia) to pay the retiring priest a pension. A related Chancery case (the pension stopped being paid) refers 'an othe upon the holy Ev[a]ngelist'.

Our database of people and their connections to places and manuscripts across the Welsh Marches is progressing! Starting to reconstruct individual networks from piles of rolls is very exciting as there's so much potential for how users of our database/website will use the data for their own research

Yup. We lost an image-rich digital resource for a few hours last month. The bots often don't make multiple requests from the same IP address making throttling requests difficult. Web Application Firewall (WAF) solutions aren't cheap.
This is happening to pretty much every university site btw. Trying to block AI bot waves is a regular thing now for uni IT networking teams.
We (quite literally) had to block ALL web traffic from Brazil very briefly a few weeks back.

Just went looking for something at the excellent Hagley Digital Archives, and was greeted by the message below.
They're being overrun by bots, as "AI systems increasingly target sites like ours to train machine learning models."
The web is being murdered. So aggravating.

Visited Acton Court today. Only part of the house has survived, but what has survived includes the apartments built by Sir Nicholas Poyntz for the visit of Henry VIII in 1535. Very pretty! #tudor
