In my opinion, this is one of the best things @society-rse.org does - if you work in research software engineering and are interested in either developing your own career or helping others develop there's, definitely check it out!
I've had the same experience with both. Nothing worse than the solution actually being 'learn the software'

I would love to know more about the svg->stl step! That's where I always stumble in this process and haven't figured out a good way to reliably move more complicated designs into a usable STL format.
