A dominant theme of Hitler's speeches in the late 1930s is that Germany was surrounded by threats. These threats were imaginary: it was Nazi Germany that threatened other nations. But they were used to justify pre-emptive attacks. Trump is following this script.

It's not "super flu". It's that flu isn't "just a flu". People really need to understand about lineage diversity, mechanisms of evolutionary change, and shifting fitness landscapes for the virus. The idea of immunity theft from COVID should be taken seriously also.
Subclade K is making its impact felt — why flu seems to be everywhere — even if ‘super flu’ is not a thing www.statnews.com/2026/01/06/f...

Leaders who have fallen over themselves to normalize Trump's illegal action in Venezuela -- including Carney -- are enabling and emboldening Trump's next imperialist actions -- very plausibly in Cuba, Colombia, Greenland, Mexico, and yes Canada.
A serious threat to Venezuela's new leader and a totally unhinged, “We do need Greenland, absolutely.”

Trump continues to decompensate and is so dangerous.

Canadian and European leaders must understand that nothing is off the table for Trump now.

As Philip K Dick was oft to remark, revelation can come from the trash layer of culture, from a deodorant ad, from a bad actor in a turkey movie. Make yourself open. In Hamnet, upon entering the Globe, Agnes asks her brother “what do I do?” He replies: “Open your heart.”

People so averse to didacticism to the detriment of receiving the lesson’s touch exhibit a kind of soul dyslexia. Truth ought to pluck the string inside you no matter the tune.

MUST WATCH: Asked why Trump is trying so hard to block the Epstein files, Rep. Thomas Massie said the quiet part out loud.

He said the files implicate billionaires, Trump friends, political donors, and that Epstein had ties to U.S. and Israeli intelligence. That’s the reason.

I told you zines were coming back
"There’s a freedom people are craving because they’re feeling so constrained, surveilled and, frankly, threatened in so many other spheres."

Zines have made a resurgence as communities seek to share information on everything from ICE raids to local elections.

Will not get over the entitlement of customers who despite photographic evidence of the product delivered to their stoop, demand of small business owners to compensate for thefts that happen on their property. This is not an outlier reaction but the norm. Retributive theft is also theft.

AI slop is the new WMD in perception warfare. The average person has low tolerance to discern truth-value, the greater the sense of ambiguity - manufactured or not - the greater the disconnect, the greater the crimes that can be committed out in the open.

Be vigilant against civility hacks. Empathy is perpetually weaponized out there, don't let it make you jaded or a useful idiot.

In a broad sense, on a day like today, please take care of each other, stand with Jewish folks who are hurting after this horrific antisemitic attack, and reject any attempts to co-opt that pain and trauma to drive more division and hate.

❤️
Ahmed El Ahmed is a hero, is a hero, wow. Incredible courage in such a terrifying moment

Thinking of the Jewish community after this horrific attack during such a special celebration 💔 I’m so sorry.

“In the late Middle Ages, right before this coercive form of capitalism was invented, people in Europe were starting to do really well. They learned how to make and trade stuff at local markets. They were doing so well that people were only working two or three days a week”

If this is real, holy shit. TIME to pack it up.
Fucking incredible dystopian shit, comparing super rich people risking millions if not billions of lives just to make more money to people that risked their life actually building incredible things that would then make millions of dollars for super rich people.

Great One my ass.
Gretzky's trip to Trump's White House reminds me of Lindbergh's trips to Nazi Germany. But they are nothing alike. Lindberg was politically unsophisticated, naive, and had bought into Nazi pseudoscience. Wait a second....

A lot of us have been discovering in real-time that an unhealthy number of people think the Holocaust was wrong *because* the victims were largely Jewish. Not because of anything inherent to the act that is transferable to other historical events.

Your tastes can be refined by logic, a social ethics, a cultural standard of beauty, but the authority arrow goes inward, not outward. In the real world, you have to still 'show your work.' An alliance of personal tastes don't cut it.

Making your personal tastes the universal baseline for what is logical, beautiful, ethical is sociopathic. People can't seem to recognize the incel-ness of such behavior. Call it the 'ought' drift, an artefact of a culture that worships opinions and loudspeaking.
