KEI HIRONO, Producer, NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. The world design is something that the team is particularly proud of. Though, we did have to reduce the number of swamps. A designer would complete a mock-up for a castle level, and Mr Miyazaki would look at it and say "Can this be a swamp?" One day, we came in and found that Mr Miyazaki had flooded his office and was hopping around on the carpet barefoot, squealing with joy. "Splish splash!" he screamed, over and over. "Splish splash!"

You’ve talked about passing the baton in the loop of life. How do you want Hideo Kojima to be remembered when you pass it on? I am not going to pass the baton to anyone. I will rather crush the baton… [Laughs.] I don’t need to give “Hideo Kojima” to anyone. If I pass the baton to my staff and tell them to make things the same way I do, the company will not succeed and will go out of business. What do you mean by that? Every day, if I tweet something that I like, a director or an actor or a musician contacts me. They say, “I’m a creator because of your games.” But they didn’t receive the baton of Hideo Kojima. They received my small fire. They’re not copying me. They’re not trying to be me. They have this fire, and they light up their own. And they’ll probably give that to someone else. There were legendary comic book artists when I was a boy. I didn’t become a comic book artist – I was inspired by them, I was influenced.

As of January 21st, 2025, Hidden Variable is no longer involved in the development of Skullgirls Mobile, 2nd Encore, or other Skullgirls IP-related efforts due to a dispute with Autumn Games which is now the subject of litigation filed in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. In light of that, we hope you understand that - beyond this statement - we will not be commenting further until this dispute is resolved. All of us at HVS are incredibly proud of the 10+ years we’ve invested in Skullgirls in all its forms, including creating and supporting Skullgirls Mobile, bringing new characters and platforms to Skullgirls 2nd Encore, supporting the competitive community via the Skullgirls Championship Series, and helping fans new and old fall in love with the IP through the Skullgirls Webtoon and countless other partnerships.
