This is what democracy looks like!

Union feeder March for #NoKingsNYC today
We ended up much faster than the main march and were dispersed when we hit 14th instead of joining the main march.

The number of times I've _started out_ with "so that's V for Victory, E for Echo, J for Juliet, D for Delta, ...."

And I still got signed up for Internet when I lived in California as "Zejdemo"
Another reason to become a pilot!

"That's Foxtrot, Alpha, Lima, Lima ... "

Also true: In any case you 100% have to spell out "F as in Frank" vs "S as in Sam," because most phone systems don't *carry* the frequencies that distinguish F from S. DAMHIK. (That's Delta Alpha Mike Hotel..)

I want someone to have my back like Mamdani and Lander have each others'.

And while I'm not a New Yorker, the first thing this makes me think?

If they're there for each other like this, against the business establishment? They'll be there for their constituents against it as well.
True: @zohranmamdani lives in 1 unit of rent-stabilized housing.

Also true: Andrew Cuomo oversaw the loss of 96,064 units of rent-stabilized housing. And killed NYC’s program helping people move out of shelter.

Leaders must show moral clarity. Andrew, time to move out. 🧵

This is a great piece by Suresh Naidu. Another piece along similar lines frames the Administration's tactics as the politics of humiliation: it's not enough that they win, but that they have to humiliate. And why it's futile for universities to even try. www.liberalcurrents.com/the-politi/

Big mood.
All I want in the whole world is to be a competent bureaucrat in the Temple of the White Rat and have a gnole acquaintance who tolerates my presence.

A difficulty of being a leftist is that we don't want to take credit for good things happening cuz all of the bad things aren't resolved. What this ends up doing is that people don't know that good things have happened because we don't take credit for those things.... The rightwing has no such pb.

Help me internets!

I want to find a source for ISO-layout keyboards that will deliver to USA. Preferably, I want ISO-UK printed, relatively cheap, wired USB keyboards.

Everywhere I've looked so far insists on ANSI-layout for the US market, with no options offered for alternatives.

Yesterday evening, during the Conference Bonfire, #Bedlewo had a hail storm pass through. Water leaking through the roof, insanely loud hammering on the glass roof in the atrium of the wing with visitor rooms.

Whoa!
There's a project to set up new manufacture at a sensible price point of the Curta 1 mechanical calculator.

No idea if they're still going (they started in 2022) - but I kinda want one.

-Restoring voting rights for felons
-Paid leave

Rep. Melissa Hortman, killed in targeted attack, was a champion for Minnesotan families
Hortman worked closely with Gov. Tim Walz to enact policies that prioritized children and expanded protections for abortion and gender-affirming care

So, the American Mathematical Monthly just published this paper: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
which details a connection between hyper-Catalan series and a way to solve general univariate polynomial equations.

The Catalan numbers Cm count the number of subdivisions of a polygon into m triangles, and it is well known that their generating series is a solution to a particular quadratic equation. Analogousl...

Holy political assassination Batman!

The most common question I'm getting as I'm preparing to go back to NYC is **Why?**

Second most common is "How will you be safe?"
Fuuuck

It’s much worse than I feared.

The definition of a geodesic through the vanishing of the covariant derivative is "just" Newton's first two laws of motion taken as axiomatic definitions.

I've used their first paper in my teaching occasionally (I think in stats, or the honors seminar on the scientific method, I forget which) and their findings are quite valuable to understanding the adult autistic experience.

NEWS: Thanks to courageous West Virginia coal miner Harry Wiley and his brilliant attorney, Sam Petsonk, over 100 NIOSH workers in Morgantown, WV just got their jobs back and the crucial Coal Workers Surveillance Program will be restored.

They took on RFK and the Trump admin—and won. Story soon.
