Hamlet and Macbeth owe a tremendous debt to Attic Orestes and Electra. And speakers of the English tongue an equally great debt to Shakespeare. Words so beautified must not be forgotten.

With ChatGPT and Meta going full steam into porn creation, does that now make Zuckerberg and Altman the biggest purveyors of pornography in the world? And Oxford and the Cal State system (500k students) still have deals with ChatGPT forcing their students to use it, right? Ok, then. #values

Hey Microsoft. Google’s Gmail doesn’t let me block email from porn spam sites, but it does let me block promotional emails from your company. Just thought you might like to know that.

Governor Elect Spanberger advises the UVA BOV to pause selection of a new President until they have a Board approved by the General Assembly. A good and fair call.

Microsoft plans to turn Windows into agentic AI OS, despite user complaints. www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/wi... This is a big reason to move to open source OSs. Without them, human agency will be compromised from the kernel up.
Windows president says platform is "evolving into an agentic OS," gets cooked in the replies — "Straight up, nobody wants this"
Microsoft's current Windows lead Pavan Davuluri has tweeted that the future of Windows will be one that evolves into an agentic OS, but has received significant pushback online.

Mr. Lion and pals … it takes zero courage to revere saints who lived hundreds of years ago. It takes genuine courage to canonize saints of our time. Canonize St. Alexei Navalny.

Corporate executive greed is a cancer on the planet, and Elon Musk is a trillion dollar tumor. Let us pray to the spirit of FDR for a way out of this inhuman evil. Even wheelchair bound, that saintly man would have kicked Musk where it counts.

I’m beginning to wonder if Humanities people, we who actually do close reading and meticulous citing, especially when multiple languages and historical sources are involved, are uniquely positioned to see the complete horse manure that AI routinely produces.

arXiv will no longer accept review articles and position papers unless they have been accepted at a journal or a conference and complete successful peer review.

This is due to being overwhelmed by a hundreds of AI generated papers a month.

Yet another open submission process killed by LLMs.

@mitpress.bsky.social MIT Press... Steven Spielberg and the ghost of Stanley Kubrick called and said they want their royalty check from you guys for pumping a book that unabashedly rips off the plot of their sci-fi joint venture and helps inflate the AI hype bubble just before it bursts.
Astonishing that a leading scientific press pumps a book entirely premised on anthropomorphizing and infantilizing tech giant AI as “our children.” Just what we need.

Scientific publishers like ACS have no business making academic libraréis police AI uses by users. They should instead advocate together for open source technical infrastructures to counteract big tech siphoning off their IP through users who are being force fed AI integrations in everything.
Interesting. A library decides they can’t renew a database because their users would immediately violate the license terms by using the university’s Microsoft products that have force fed copilot into everything.

Great future we’re building here in the higher ed factory
Fascinating to see how one academic library vendors is trying to restrict students/faculty using LLMs.

The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, "What is your stance on AI?" And my answer was very short. I said, "I'd rather die." … My concern is not artificial intelligence, but natural stupidity. — Guillermo del Toro
