One of the benefits of reading a lot of history is that you realize how many people who were ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN they were doing a lot of good were, in fact, doing a lot of harm.

Certainty is a hell of a drug. Certainty combined with fame/power is especially dangerous.

How do you deal with people around you wanting to be affectionate, but you're #autistic and can't reciprocate for some periods of time?

In “Way of the Kings” there’s a cursed king who doesn’t know whether he will wake up a genius or an idiot each morning.

That’s how I am now with anger. Today I am very angry.

heartwarming story for the holidays ❤️‍🔥

“…the neo-Nazis told police they had never experienced a response like the one they received in Columbus. They said people pulled guns on them and threw cans and vegetables as they marched... One of the officers noted the men were ‘covered in’ pepper spray.”
Body cam footage: Neo-Nazis who marched in Short North claimed to be victims of violence

We are now talking about “public support for trans people” as if we were talking about corn subsidies or something. If being trans isn’t polling well (thanks to millions and millions of dollars of right wing propaganda) what am I meant to do? Stop existing? Die? Go back in the closet? What, exactly?

The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LURKING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Sometimes you just want to scroll and that's totally okay

At least here it isn't an algorithmically optimized doomscroll designed to make you angry and scared

Please lurk and enjoy the cat pictures!

There should be a phrase like "uncanny valley" for writing. Like, do you ever read something online and get the feeling it wasn't written by a person?
