Easing my way out of academia (MS in Info and Library Science, so data/research is my thing, but that BFA in Theatre performance sneaks in there, too). Still love a deep-dive, but I'm also here for the paranormal and the power of stories. 1/3

I wrote about it!

Once, during a thunderstorm, my dad told me, "I love you in the rain."

It was a common refrain, and something I've always carried with me. My partner and I are always saying, "I love you on a Monday," "I love you in the car," etc.

What is a word or phrase that is part of your family #folklore? Something that was said as a kid, or a mashup of a couple of words, or mispronounced, or completely crafted from new. Maybe a new holiday (ours below - because I ruined his valentines day proposal so we celebrate 2/12 instead!)

I didn't have enough confidence to write publicly until I took a technical writing course in grad school. My prof constantly told me to edit, but also praised my prose, if only in a different course, 😁. Imposter syndrome loomed large - a small validation helped tremendously.
It's #pretendpanel time!

February 8th: Was there anything significant in your life that led you to writing? eg. events, books you read, people - writers, teachers etc

I realise this could get quite involved! I look forward to whatever you say 😊

Owning physical media isn’t nostalgia—it’s preservation. Used is fine. Streaming services drop content, digital licenses vanish, and censorship happens. If something matters to you, make sure you own it. A shelf of books doesn’t need an internet connection.

I try to write to not only be read but to be heard. I inherited that storytelling gene, and combine that with being a voice actor, I read my work out loud for flow. I strive for the narrative to be conversational, too.

Good evening #pretendpanel! This one comes courtesy of @svrtnsse.bsky.social:

This song is quoted and central to my main character and has a bitchin' electric guitar riff www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgbB...

Following a debate on audiobook narration (AI vs. Human) As a narrator & comm studies prof, I have ~opinions~ 😁 Studies indicate that synthetic voices require a higher cognitive load from listeners b/c it lacks what a human voice can encode; imagery & engagement. bit.ly/4jxrn1q

History matters. Philosophy matters. Languages and literature matter. Indigenous studies matter. Arts and humanities and social sciences matter. All of them.
