The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

"This policy harms the vulnerable populations"
"Education broadens the horizons"
In this context, "the" may unintended definition where it is feels odd or formal.
It usually slips after days in Francophone mode.

"I promised him I will be on time."
It is perfectly sound in Arabic. Past perfect is achieved through modal verbs and gives the impression of affected accuracy in modern standard Arabic (MSA), unlike in English and French where it has its fully fledged place in the language.

That's brutal and saddening. What are the professional options for word workers in these times? Are there niches they can pivot to? Or is it total career change?

Moreover, the fact that I was heavier on French for the last two years made me go back to erroneously placing a definite article before some plural nouns.
I had also dedicate enough study and observation in the past to ommit them. Now I need a refresher on those two rules and I am set for life again

After years of naturally incorporating propper reported speech rules in my use of English, I got so comfortable that I've recently gone back to making mistakes. Everything else improved from accent to vocabulary, but the past of the past is apparently unnecessary according to my brain.

That sounds bad. I feel the language learning community is awfully affected by AI. Thank you for taking the time to enlighten me.

The way I tell someone their room is messy:
"Your room is the kind of rooms and houses they make TV shows about where the show host and the family members of the person living there gather and cry about how difficult it is to see someone in those conditions"

It is like a human without experience nor judgement. It works when all the rules are clear or you just want an agent to supervise, summarise, communicate information. That's useful to many automation applications I may be working on as a software engineer. But linguistics is still out of its reach.

Language industry friends: how has AI affected your career?
Being careful not to misattribute to AI what economic factors account for, do you feel AI adoption has changed demand for your services, or the way you offer them?
January 28, 2026 at 11:17 PM
It is exhausting to do that all the time, in my experience.

What are we going to do about the fact that social media is being invaded by bots, especially comments? What are we going to do about this scandalous lack of legitimacy? I still haven't guaged the degree to which BlueSky is affected. But I can fairly say that the other platforms are cooked.
