My parents heard the siren call of the silver screen and moved to HOLLYWOODLAND after World War II. Red and Lil were introduced by an older couple, Andy and Ev. They owned the house where mom lived and only rented to women. Dad traded handyman work for music lessons.

Los Angeles, the US city with the longest and shortest names. The full name reveals layers of history, language, and migration. LA is a crossroads; where cultures meet and sometimes clash. LA can be a liminal space, a place to reinvent one’s self.

Every learning journey has origin stories, detours, and transformations. Mine began in Hollywood and my first trip was with my mom on a Greyhound bus to visit her parents in Silver City, New Mexico. I remixed this image to create a memory six month old me never had.

**TECH HELP NEEDED:** Shure X2u + SM27 suddenly stopped working after Win 11 Pro updates on Dell 8960.
System detects it as "Unrecognized Device" but X2u won't appear in sound settings or work at all.
Anyone else had X2u compatibility issues after Win 11 updates? Solutions?

No team that swept their Division Series and then played a team that won game 7 of their Division Series has ever won a World Series.
And the Toronto Bluejays have never lost a World Series!
We've got them right where we want them!

I saw a Facebook post from a page called "Dodgers Faithful" on September 15, 2025, that claimed Mookie Betts posted this quote on his Instagram. The quote did not appear on Betts’ Instagram, nor did the follow-up post. It's fake and appears to be fabricated for engagement or misinformation.

“The difference between an encampment and a vigil is that an encampment is where homeless people live,” Melaku-Bello said. “As you can see, I don’t have a bed. I have signs and it is covered by the First Amendment right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression.”
I cannot believe that all the Trump rhetoric about free speech was as hollow as a dollar store fake chocolate easter bunny

and I'm shocked that all those opportunistic engagement grift substack influencers would lie to me like this
A decades-long peace vigil outside the White House is dismantled after Trump's order
Officials removed a peace vigil that stood outside the White House for more than four decades after Trump ordered it to be taken down as part of the clearing of homeless encampments.

This NYT story on Nvidia opposing AI regulations informs me that the debate over AI is between people who want to "unlock trillions of dollars in economic value" and "doomers"

no room for people just generally worried about environmental impact, fuzzy numbers or broad product misrepresentation

The story that inspired the most mail The New Yorker had ever received in response to a work of fiction—and caused some readers to cancel their subscriptions.
“The Lottery,” by Shirley Jackson
Fiction, from 1948: “The people had done it so many times that they only half listened to the directions; most of them were quiet, wetting their lips, not looking around.”
