Pssst 🗣️ They’re using abortion to challenge EMTALA (which legally requires ERs to provide stabilizing care regardless of your ability to pay) while kicking 16 million people off health insurance, closing hospitals, and ending medical school loans during a primary care shortage. They want you dead.

NEW: The Senate bill "defunding" Planned Parenthood is just one front in the war to ban abortion without explicitly banning it.

The right is vying to cut off federal funds, shutter clinics, restrict abortion pills, and let protestors terrorize abortion seekers—and put abortion entirely out of reach
The Plot to Effectively Ban Abortion Nationwide Is Unfolding Before Our Eyes
Lawmakers and activists are working to shutter clinics and restrict access to abortion pills. The end result would be catastrophic.

I hope it’s clear to everyone that this budget bill quite literally defunds every social assistance program in the country to increase funding for ICE, defense contractors, and millionaires.

Babes I’m gonna be honest we got people being disappeared by ICE and having their corpses used as incubators so I could not possibly care less about however Sabrina Carpenter wants to consensually sexualize herself

Pay attention to this. Abortion is under attack—but it’s also often a canary in the coal mine.

HIPAA *ALREADY* prohibited disclosing health info, just like EMTALA *ALREADY* required hospitals to provide emergency abortions. Biden just reiterated that. The GOP wants to upend HIPAA & EMTALA entirely.
BREAKING: U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk has issued a ruling striking down the 2024 Biden-era HIPAA rule protecting reproductive health information from disclosure to law enforcement investigators when it was legally obtained, such as in another state.

May Adriana Smith finally rest in peace. What Emory Hospital & Georgia have put her family through is unimaginable. It turns my stomach to see people say someone who died in February just “gave birth.”

You can donate to help Adriana’s family with the enormous medical bill and care of her sons here:

Let's be clear: our collective failure to normalize abortion as vital healthcare (including among liberals) leaves abortion providers and pro-abortion legislators uniquely vulnerable.

This one is a must read, especially for folks still evolving on the urgent need to abolish family policing. One part of this infuriating story to highlight is that the only people who fundraised and provided material support to this teen and her baby…was abortion funds.
Hailey entered foster care when she was 2.

She got pregnant at 15, and after being denied an abortion, became determined to keep her baby from repeating the traumatic childhood she experienced.

But Hailey says the state has seemed just as determined to keep her from raising her baby. #moleg

If this rightfully disgusts you, know that about half of states have pregnancy exclusions for advanced medical directives.
Adriana Smith was a young mom and Emory Hospital nurse who tragically lost her life in February while nine weeks pregnant.

Georgia’s abortion ban is forcing Adriana’s family — against their wishes — to keep her body on a ventilator for 7 months to incubate the fetus.

The cruelty is unfathomable.

The best later abortion reporting I’ve ever read. Thank you @amylittlefield.bsky.social for lifting up our patients and staff in such a tender, respectful way, and for calling out the terrible political decisions that got us viability bans.
My cover story in the June issue of @thenation.com is a dispatch from one of the few clinics offering abortions in all trimesters.

It’s a call to defend all abortions and to trust pregnant people.

It’s also, incidentally, my pregnancy announcement:

What police and prosecutors are doing to #KarenRead is WILD, but if this is how far they’ll go to frame a rich white woman who was dating a cop and has a world class defense team, imagine what they do to low-income Black and brown folks every day.

It’s not just corruption—it’s structural violence.
