ICE detained Julio Noriega, a 54 year-old US citizen who was born in Chicago, for over 10 hours on January 31st.
He was walking around "Berwyn, Illinois, handing out his resume to local businesses."
They didn't show him a warrant.
They didn't give him paperwork.
And he's now suing.

If you’re a US citizen, there are many things you can do to protect the undocumented:
1. If you’re on train or bus and ICE asks for ID refuse to show yours. Ask questions.
2. If they’re outside your home, ask who they’re looking for and if they have a warrant.

I know that it is the point, but the whiplash about federal funding has been an exhausting emotional roller coaster over the last 48 hours. It is extremely distressing to not know if you are going to have a job tomorrow.

Today, Chicago City Council voted 39-11 to block an effort to allow police to cooperate with ICE as the incoming Trump administration threatens to make mass deportations.
Today, the Chicago City Council votes on amending the Welcoming City Ordinance.
The proposal, backed by Alds. Ray Lopez and Silvana Tabares, is meant to be a show of cooperation with Trump’s admin, which has threatened to make Chicago “ground zero for deportations.”
