The CSMB is concerned that, despite new investments, Federal Budget 2025 weakens rather than strengthens Canada’s research ecosystem.
Sustainable research funding is essential for innovation and competitiveness.

I am also deeply thankful for pecan pie.

With half a bottle of Chardonnay in me, and with full acknowledgement of the objections to this holiday many have, I would like to say that I am thankful for my parents, the support they gave and the character they taught me to have. I know who I am, and I persevere, because of them.

I wonder what will do more damage to scientific credibility in the long run... Science institutions and grants being openly and deliberately taken over by partisan political ideology, or people getting their science information and understanding from ChatGPT summaries?

... sooooo, Labubu's are just the Pokemon evolution of Furbys, right?

Everything happening is a lot.
Take a breath. It’s not on you to fix all of it.
Find a corner of it you can work on.
Do a thing today that matters to you. Help someone you can help.
Don’t let anyone talk you out of trying.

As brutal and lonely and dark as the world is right now, the few trans people in my life are some of the most kind and decent souls I know. They have survived so much, and are thriving now. So maybe there's hope for the rest of us too. Happy pride.

I want to believe in people. Even after everything, I want to believe in people. Because if I'm wrong, what's the goddamn point?

I think it will be interesting to see how much the record early voting was a question of electoral engagement and how much was just people more willing to cast a ballot in advance to save the rush. But if you haven't yet, there's still time (in my time zone at least)!

If you can avoid it, don't work for or with assholes. It's never worth it in the long run.
I'm stealing somebody's thread idea:

Here's the thing. Horrible people feed off each other. Every horrible person uses other horrible people to justify themselves. So be decent. Try to seed a little goodness around you. And let's hope that, eventually, the horrible people will burn each other down and we'll have built something.

I liked 'Rogue One'. Maybe my favorite SW movie. It's about failures, nobodies, and rejects trying to do a little bit of good against a vastly superior evil, hoping it might mean something, pretty sure it won't, and every one of them dies not knowing if it mattered at all. Feels relatable.

I refuse to rant about the politics of a foreign country, and I refuse to further the reach of hate and bullshit even to dunk on it. But I will say, Trans men are men, trans women are women, intersex/non-binary/2 spirit identities are valid, and I love you.

As a U of R student, I find it appalling that the U of R student union has moved to defund the U of R Women's Centre and URPride. I let them know what I think and you should too (especially if you're a U of R student). The more voices they hear from, the better.
