We're having a big public outreach/award event at work next month, and they'll be using some of my insect art for one of the displays. They even asked me if I'd be willing to draw one or two new pieces for the occasion (I am).

I know that everyone loves iNaturalist and racking up observations from photographs. But there really is no substitute for physical specimens, so many species are not easily identified from photos.

It is utterly wild to me that for my entire lifetime “you can’t use a calculator in math class” was a completely accepted position despite calculators being everywhere in real life, and “you shouldn’t use AI to write papers” is an opinion apparently so toxic professors jobs are being threatened.
