Bernie Sanders: "What this Senate is about to do is make a horrific situation even worse. So let's be clear what this vote is about. If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are gonna see at least a doubling in their premiums in the ACA."

The world’s richest man was just handed a chance to become history’s first trillionaire. Elon Musk won a shareholder vote on Thursday that would give the Tesla CEO stock worth $1 trillion if he hits certain performance targets over the next decade.

The @wcp.bsky.social annual People Issue is out. I’ve freelanced for the paper for a long time, and I think this is my first People piece. I talked to Bob Boilen, who retired from NPR and turned his energy to WOWD, the great tiny FM station in Takoma Park. washingtoncitypaper.com/article/7737...

Greene: "I will praise Nancy Pelosi. She had an incredible career for her party. I served under her speakership in my first term in Congress and I'm very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party."

never do i miss working at WCP more than when the People Issue comes out. best issue.
The People Issue is back: a nomadic chef, a persistent muralist, an exotic dance expert, a lawyer who won’t stay quiet, and one very familiar face weighing a fourth term.

We’re grateful to share their stories with you. Photos by @darrow-m.bsky.social:

They’re going to have to rename it the “Defamation League” at some point. Absolutely disgusting stuff from ADL’s CEO yesterday on MSNBC that I would put in the category of “barely veiled Islamophobia.” He’s got nothing so he just does these nasty insinuations

A victory that should not be taken lightly: All 3 PA Supreme Court justices won retention, despite a massive GOP disinformation campaign.

The fact that judicial races — let alone retention elections — are becoming expensive, national affairs is... not great

The fact that Democrats won both elections yesterday for the Georgia Public Service Commission is remarkable enough (no Democrat had won a non-federal statewide race in GA since 2006).

But both won by a margin of 63% to 37%. In Georgia.

absolutely historic, inspiring campaign. a beacon of hope in what feels like insurmountably dark times.
Breaking News: Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state lawmaker from Queens, will be the 111th mayor of New York. He will be the first Muslim to ever lead the city, as well as its first South Asian mayor and the youngest mayor in more than a century.

good god absolutely savage election night for dems in Virginia
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

New reporting from me this week: The DOJ is now strong-arming at least one state into banning ballots that arrive after Election Day.

It's another rubicon-crossing moment for how the Trump admin is trying to seize control of elections from the states.
EXCLUSIVE: The Trump administration threatened Ohio with “costly litigation” unless it bans the counting of ballots that arrive after Election Day. The move underscores the president’s broader effort to disenfranchise large numbers of voters by eliminating mail ballot grace periods.

So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."
