Jon’s a fantastic editor, has the sharpest wit of anyone out there, and any newsroom is immeasurably better with him at the helm or in the ranks. Hire him immediately.

a lot of great people lost their jobs today, but just wanted to give a shoutout to my pal @jonfischer.bsky.social, who took a chance on me years ago and let me write for @wcp.bsky.social.

and then, years later, let me to write this for the Post: www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...
‘Blair Witch’ fans haunted Burkittsville. Now the town is beckoning them.
When “The Blair Witch Project” became a hit, obsessives descended on Burkittsville, Md. Now, 25 years later, it’s embracing its place in film history.

Also: We have a 'submit resume for future openings' now, and are going to be posting more jobs later this year.

We're funded by our 50K+ members paying $120/year, plus some YouTube ads, not a billionaire's whims. Legit, openly left-leaning, independent news outlet full of veteran journalists.
I wish independent media outlets had the capacity to absorb all the talent being laid off today at the WaPo (and recently elsewhere, like CBS).
We don’t.
But: @democracydocket.com is hiring a part time weekend journalist position right now.

The election denial movement relies on propaganda and urging their believers into action based on genuine belief that they are in the right.
People saying "there aren't enough ICE agents" are kinda missing the point. The point is to get people to distrust the results of the election.

And here's our general talent pool link that you can apply to. As I said, we have plans to expand this year. If you're interested in politics/voting rights/democracy-related journalism, apply and feel free to get in touch with me! Happy to answer any questions. ats.rippling.com/democracy-do...

To anyone who was laid off today at the Washington Post: @democracydocket.com is hiring of just a couple positions right now, but we're quickly growing and will be hiring much more throughout the year. It's a wonderful place to work, with great colleagues: ats.rippling.com/democracy-do...

I'm so sorry, Chris. You did incredible, work for The Post and DC and you deserve so much more than this bullshit. DC will remain undefeated in the end.
February 4, 2026 at 7:29 PM
The Washington Post just laid off a third of its newsroom, Trump said he wants to nationalize elections, and Steve Bannon just said they're going to send ICE to polling places in November. jesus fucking christ, what are we doing here.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

it's actually the same line written on every page, so that when Julie Carmen picks up a copy and flips to a random page, she'll always have the right line in front of her to read.

NEW: In one of his most explicit signals of election interference yet, Trump falsely claimed on a radio interview that immigrants “were brought to our country to vote and they vote illegally” and urged Republicans to control elections by placing them under national authority.
Trump: ‘We should take over the voting'
Trump, as usual, offered no evidence for any of his claims.
