Sure, AI may be an environmental disaster and produce mid outcomes in cases where it doesn't straight up lie, but at least it's extremely unprofitable.
As Klarna flips from AI-first to hiring people again, a new landmark survey reveals most AI projects fail to deliver
Just 1 in 4 AI investments bring in the ROI they promise—but CEOs just can’t resist the technology.

There's something so fulfilling in learning about the history of a technology that we take for granted today.

I just loved this one.

I hadn't thought about it so it hadn't occurred to me that centrifuges would be so useful across many fields, but now it seems so obvious that they could be.
Making the Centrifuge
The modern centrifuge was first designed for milkfat separation in the dairy industry. Today, it is ubiquitous in research laboratories. To whom do we owe its astonishing versatility?

An essential task that doesn't get recognized (and paid) as it should. Often as complex (or more) as the following tasks.
We need more data janitors in the world. 🧹
People whose focus is organizing, documenting, and wrangling data for other people. I would welcome the company. It’s not a glamorous job but it’s really important and it’s very needed.

Others, like this new Bluesky fake follower network, just create a bunch of accounts with default avatars and call it a day.

I decided to start writing blog posts about data science a few years ago, and it's one of the best decisions I've made to improve how I write and communicate.

I'd highly recommend it, and this a really nice blog post from @paulrjohnson.net which has some truly great advice in it!
He has written. I had a crack at writing about writing, and in the process suffered extreme imposter syndrome and felt very vulnerable. That means you're not allowed to bully me if it's shit.
