Leaving for Bangface Weekender tomorrow evening. Going by train, as always, and the interrail pass map is looking fresh. The three branches via Cologne, Luxembourg and Berlin on the way home is because I haven't planned my route - trying to make this an exercise in not being a control freak

Half of the BBC live feed about the ECML stabbing looks like it was written by AI. Never have I felt more sympathy for people arguing the BBC should be abolished.

I just checked a niche topic I remember lots of minor details about and the Grokipedia account is just wrong in so many places. Wikipedia-powered hallucination is what this thing is.

Much like Hillsborough, you have to marvel at how Britain as a system is so utterly impervious to accountability: decades of orchestrated bullshit, legal shenanigans and institutional roadblocks, and then one final great rasping fart of “maybe it was elves that did it, and fuck you”.

Imagine if social media had been around in the time of Engelbert Humperdinck
Higgledy piggledy
Timothée Chalamet
Has a name meriting
Endless design
Much like his forerunner
Benedict Cumberbatch:
Hexasyllabically,
Easy to rhyme

Spare a thought for Daniella Weiss
Your jokes about Trump are extremely insensitive to those of us who are also bereft that we didn’t get the Nobel peace prize

Britian loses
Badenoch wants to eliminate ‘rip off degrees’ like English. The usual philistine crap that a degree is just about work. The mission to create the stupidest nation on earth. And counterproductive. Young people will work for years. They’ll retrain endlessly. A degree can help them learn how to learn

I rarely get hung up on punctuation but BBC News refusing to spell Babiš's name correctly and using the possessive form "Babis'" with s' as if it's plural has been annoying the hell out of me every time I see this

my favourite part of the UK ID card discourse is the number of people using smartphones to complain about surveillance on big social media sites run by the advertising industry

Seeing liberals and normies push back against the obvious BS from Trump and RFK yet accepting the framing of Autism as a "PROBLEM that must be solved" has been pissing me off all day

so many of the small indignities of daily life come from us being denied the ability to tell a rich man in a tech company to fuck off. minesweeper has microtransactions. paid services have ads. the opt out says maybe later. the drive thru is a broken chatbot. your car is an ipad. fuck off! fuck off!

when I started doing alt right research, the first thing that stood out to me was the cavalier/carnavalesque attitude toward political violence. it is very sad to see people on the left doing the same kind of minimization, even if I understand how desperate/helpless/angry we all rightfully feel.

If you care whatsoever about the UK and you're still active on X, Formerly Known As Twitter you need to have a word with yourself. Mars Boy is making it clearer and clearer that he's trying to incite a civil war or at best major race riots.

It has been really interesting to attend UNESCO's Digital Learning Week (though unfortunately I'm not able to stick around). My public lecture from yesterday can be found here:

One of the things that really sucks is hiring a company to do translations into a bunch of languages...and then discovering that they used AI for some of them. Which you only discover because your readers complain about the "horrible AI translation". IF YOU CAN'T TRANSLATE IT, HIRE SOMEONE WHO CAN.
