Oxford charity Asylum Welcome is asking residents to place an orange light in their window during the Oxford Light Festival, 14-16 November. The light represents compassion for people fleeing war and persecution and is inspired by the colours of a lifebelt.

The Cowley Branch Line railway is set to reopen with new stations at Littlemore and Cowley. The Government is today announcing £120m to rebuild the line, with trains running by 2030. Journey time will be just 7 minutes from Littlemore to Oxford station. Full story: oxfordclarion.uk/cowley-branc...

The site now says “A date for passenger service introduction will be communicated once all the necessary authorisations and agreements are in place.” As we reported in September, although the track is complete and the trains ready, rail unions have objected to running the trains without a guard.

Sounds like the Pope has just read E. P. Thompson's 'The Making of the English Working Class'! What he describes is exactly what Thompson describes at the end of the 18C. Only things are worse now.
