I clearly had a lot of thoughts/feelings from reading Terry's blog post, so I wrote one of my own

It ended up being a bit of a stream-of-thought post but I think it captures some of my worries

The idea that we have to "encourage responsible AI usage" is a core part of the inevitability narrative driving the institutional adoption that makes people think it's worth trying out.

it contributes to the very problem it supposedly tries to solve. we can't let it go unchallenged.

I did hear a bit doing the traditional "Open access publishing is now so expensive no-one can afford to do it". And I mostly want to stand up and scream Green.

I seem to spend my life wanting to stand up and scream green.

Our review paper with @profandyfield.com just got accepted to PeerJ 🎉 osf.io/preprints/ps...

We review OLS models and their assumptions, discuss statistical practice, and offer some practical tips on how to use robust methods with preregistration to reduce unnecessary analytic degrees of freedom.

What's the moment of luck that's had the biggest impact for your academic career? For me, it was how I wouldn't have gotten a PhD fellowship if it wasn't for the 1st-ranked person declining, which meant that I was awarded the fellowship as 2nd-ranked applicant. That was my last shot at a PhD.
