Today @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social aired what is likely the most CBC segment ever on the topic of clotheslines, and the people who love them.

And I listened with great interest.

Hey Mark, what’s one thing that surprised you about exercise?

That’s a great question, thanks for asking. Looking back over the years one surprising aspect is that as I got stronger lifting weights, the weight never felt lighter. All that changed was my ability to lift more.

Recommendations wanted:

You have a couple of gift cards for a bookstore.

What nonfiction book(s) are you getting?

Happy New Year.

Coming up with a post that ties in the new year and back pain is challenging - informative/inspiring/funny/sensitive…?

I’ll let you know if I come up with something good.

Suggestions welcome.

Happy new year.

I wish you sustained motivation and effort in achieving your goals.

For example, the goal of decreasing rent and grocery prices. Anyone want to work on that together?

What I absolutely love about New Year’s Eve is that it’s the one holiday significant enough that every religion decided to celebrate it.

Discussions about religion and atheism that aren’t centred around how stupid one or the other is can be really neat.

I mean I imagine it’d be neat. I’ve never actually seen it pulled off before.

I wonder what it would be like to start the new year off with a car that’s had a good vacuum, and the dashboard and inside of the windshield wiped down?

I guess I’ll never know.

New Year resolution:

Take more time to lie back
in beautiful time lapses, Ferris wheels, kisses and lilacs.

Full disclosure: this was not the finished product. I’d put them in too small of a pan, and only the top half and outsides were baked through. Put them back in for another 15 mins, and surprisingly they turned out well. I think I just need to tweak a couple of things and the next time will be great.

Just watched half of a short video about back pain.

It was bad.

I didn’t have faith the second half would be redeeming.

I’m making cinnamon rolls. From scratch.

It’s fun looking back on my recent posts to see what caused a random block from an account I don’t know.

Was it my post about how physical activity is healthy?

Or did it have to do with my repost of an account comparing orange juice with pulp to soup?

Either way, I can see how how it’s warranted.

About six hours ago I said if there was one video to share going into the new year that I think can have the biggest, most accessible impact on improving health it would be this one.

I still think that.
You’re about to make an exercise-based new year resolution, aren’t you?

That’s awesome.

This is one of my favourite videos about the benefits of physical activity, and how you don’t need to be a sports superstar to gain huge benefits.

Dusty Leach, to me, sounds like a local attorney, who maybe runs for District Attorney. Maybe even wins.

Thought exercise: have you ever wondered if your life would be different if you had a different name?

Like, if my name was "Dusty Leach" would this have changed my life?

Dusty Leach sounds like someone important.

All too often we lose motivation because we look at what we think we need to do - a mountain of high intensity exercise - to be healthier.

And it’s not true.

A little bit of consistent daily movement offers big health benefits.
