Maybe for the first time, we can make interactive products the way we’ve always made art. In conversation. By discovery. Flying by the seat of our pants until we finally see what we were trying to build.

This could have been a chart instead of a ridiculously nosy and overbuilt water bottle.

I Hate How Much I Love This Hydration-Tracking Water Bottle
I take hydration seriously, but this reusable, smart water bottle helped me realize I wasn't drinking enough water.

To be fair the goal of 3 liters of water is probably some made up garbage to sell water bottles, too. I never had this much water during the day except when it’s really hot outside?

When you change UI, you’re not just changing pixels. You’re invalidating a mental model that took time to form.

That cost is paid by every user, every time.

If you don’t find a way to align your team’s efforts and channel the collective energy and focus of the group on very specific outcomes, you are very likely going to end up in a situation akin to sailing to an unknown destination.

[Definining the problem] is a skill that has almost completely atrophied in an industry realigning around solving product problems (“put AI in it”) rather than customer problems (“as a user, I want to buy my juice”).

Designing for AI isn’t as alien as it sounds. The fundamentals (user needs, clear feedback, intuitive flows) don’t disappear just because there’s a language model involved. If anything, they matter more.
