8 years ago the GOP insisted the president didn’t say what we all heard him say: that the Nazis who attacked & murdered people in Charlottesville were “very fine people.”

Now the VP - and the entire GOP - use word-for-word the same rhetoric of those very Nazis on a daily basis

“Once-unthinkable” here should be “in wild and blatant violation of the law and the US Constitution.”

At NIH alone:
The RIFs were illegal (as a judge, Illston, ruled). The grant terminations were illegal (Young ruling). The probationary firings were illegal (Alsop ruling).

We must say this. 1/
This account of how the Trump admin carried out a once-unthinkable overhaul of government in 2025 is based on a year’s worth of messages and interviews with more than 1,200 current and former federal workers. Please read from me and @merylkornfield.bsky.social. wapo.st/4b14KAy

Interesting to consider that if you were to go and deface the Kennedy center by removing Trump’s name, you’d be arrested and charged with a crime, but your act would be no more unlawful than what they’re doing right now.

This is precisely how fascism works, by grabbing at and taking away a little more freedom whenever events lend themselves to it. Bit by bit you lose your rights, until you turn around and realize the road you're on has been long, and democracy is well behind you over the horizon.

What does one even do when the people in charge of the federal government lie about EVERYTHING, won’t accept real identity documents as real, make up evidence to go after whoever they want to …

I dug into the stats. The number of accepted applicants (including dependents) in the diversity visa lottery ranged from 82,373 to 194,544 annually in the past 30 years. So that’s 1 alleged murderer among several million people. There are 6.8 homicides per 100,000 people in the U.S.

This this this. And if you, the public, cease to care, why should the President?
NB: When I, a professor of law, profess that an act is unlawful, I am not doing it to inform the lawbreaker, but rather to inform you, the reader.

So the question “what, like you think he cares?” is inapposite. The question is whether *you* care. I think you should, which is why I bother.

Lying about Trump’s lies about Rob Reiner’s death to perpetuate lies about reactions to Charlie Kirk’s death in service to long-running lies about left and right using a fictional version of Trump to lie for.

Every accusation is an confession; the Trump admin says they’ll “re-review” 230,000 refugees who came under Biden in case they weren’t truly refugees, while also ordering the State Department to declare that white South Africans automatically meet the definition of refugees.
Some news on Trump's doling out of most refugee slots to white South Africans: Two former State Department officials tell us basic protocols designed to determine whether this group actually merits protection have simply been scrapped. It's just whim.

Ukraine already tried giving up land for Russia’s word to stop attacking, with the Minsk Agreements of 2014-15. Russia violated them with a full scale invasion in 2022.

Why would Ukraine think land for peace would work this time, especially when a Putin-sympathetic US won’t do security guarantees?
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that if Ukraine takes the right steps, its GDP could surpass Russia’s within 10 years.

"They are literally fighting over a 30-50 km strip in Donetsk, roughly 20% of the region still under Ukrainian control and now a central issue in negotiations."
