I just remembered that, technically, I’ve stabbed myself. As a kid, I used to throw knives at a dartboard. One bounced and buried itself in my leg. I’m grateful that when I later threw axes at trees, none of them came back.

Too often the prose chases mood at the expense of clarity. It would hit harder if it were trimmed back.
