Welsh matriarch of a large and wonderful family. I love France and spend as much time as possible there . Sadly more tricky since we left the EU . Hope we rejoin in the not too distant future.

“The economic cost of Brexit, reliably estimated at around 5% of GDP and with a total loss to government coffers by 2035 of over £300bn, is unlikely to be offset by attempting to ‘make Brexit work’ – a slogan which rather confirms that it hasn’t”
Brexit – an unwelcome truth
Labour’s continued silence on Brexit might just reveal an unwelcome truth; another reason, perhaps, to use the Brexit telescope?

I’m old enough to remember Boris Johnson telling businesses Brexit paperwork could go in a bin. Now they need a warehouse to store it in

Boris Johnson promised farmers that “subsidies would stay - 100% guaranteed”.

🚜 The National Farmers’ Union council was overwhelmingly in support of “Remain”, but decided not to campaign outright, as it would upset some of their larger farmers who were cheering Brexit.
What happened to those post-Brexit farm subsidies?
We need a discussion about UK food and farming, our resilience to external and self-inflicted events, and where the money is going

Those accusing the ICC of being “political” do not fully understand the law.

Post WWII, we in “the West” stipulated a set of shared rules that we believed applied to everyone - enemies, allies and ourselves.

If an ally breaches those rules, the rules have not suddenly become “political” overnight.

#Brexit the gift that keeps on giving.
There once was a man who made cheese,
Who thought he could still trade with ease,
But his cheese is in Dover,
And EU trade's over,
Coz Brexiters voted to Leave!

As #r4today is looking at the refugee crisis today, over 1M asylum applications were made to the EU in 2023. The majority were made in Germany (135K) & France (116K).
UK received 67K.

Only by close cooperation, & with humanity, will we find solutions to the refugee crisis.

Just like we now know the catastrophic effects of ending Sure Start and closing children's centres, so the impact of scrapping youth clubs is now coming home to roost.
No other group was as adversely affected and let down by the Tory govts of the last 15 years than children and young people.
NEW: The closure of youth clubs in the 2010s led to increased offending and worse GSCE results.

Teenagers entitled to free school meals were most affected.
