The end result of this is trans people can't travel to the USA without the risk of being permanently banned from entering the USA on grounds of "gender fraud".

Already know trans folks in high tech fields who will be cancelling plans to give talks in America.

Whoever decided to release Onyx Storm the day after a holiday when most (if not all) delivery services are closed is, um, not the sharpest. Especially after the disaster release of the last book. 👀

It's a great day to support your indie bookshop and rely on your friendly neighborhood bookseller to recommend some awesome gifts (because those special orders probably aren't gonna make it!).

Just a heads up that if you want to support your local bookshop as part of your holiday gift buying, you need to get any special orders in like, NOW, if you want to ensure things are here by xmas.

obsessed with this cover! 😍
Turns out it's cover reveal day!

A GAME IN YELLOW is coming August 12, 2025 from Saga, with a delicious cover by Caroline Teagle Johnson and Math Monohan, that the publisher calls "a masterful blend of horror, erotica, and psychological thriller" 💛

Over on tiktok we had a viral post about Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees with 1.5 million views that has likely brought in A LOT of sales, but want to guess how many we've sold at OUR indie shop? Just FIVE. In 2 months of it being viral, & with so many commenting about how they just bought it. 😭

A lovely local author posted a video of our shop yesterday and someone commented to take the pride flag down. If you don't like the flag, we're perfectly fine if you don't come in! 👍

Next time you have an idea that seems too crazy, just remember that John Woo once walked into an office and said "I wanna make a movie where Nick Cage plays John Travolta playing Nick Cage, and John Travolta plays Nick Cage playing John Travolta," and someone wrote him a check for 80 million dollars

One of the things I think people don't understand is that you only need 2% of people to be actively committed anti trans people to wildly outnumber, outpace and out power 1% who are trans if the other 97% are ambivalent.

Ambivalence about human rights is a problem.

So I have been promoting this like crazy to friends but by coincidence this weekend I read Banned Book Club by @ryanestrada.com and it gave me some great context around the history of Korean democracy that was helpful in understanding the broader implications of what happened yesterday. 📚👀 #booksky

Here's your daily reminder that bookstores keep the love of reading alive — but they also keep neighborhoods beautiful. They are places to gather, to celebrate stories, to find community.

Please do your holiday shopping at your local independent bookstore, if you are lucky enough to still have one.

Speaking of books with lesbians in them, Private Rites released today! If you want a very queer King Lear retelling that doubles as dystopian eco-fiction, this book is for you!

People tend to romanticize dusty bookshops filled almost entirely with old books, and yes, it's still a room full of books, but every time I go to one like that I am thinking about who is missing in all those pages. All the women and BIPOC folks and queer people. I want to hear those voices.
