Charlie's belief that anyone can be redeemed is central to the plot of Hazbin Hotel. It tracks for her character that she would be happy to see abusive people moving in any positive direction. If some people didn't like the ending now, a season end at this particular point where like Val stops being abusive would have been so unrealistic that a lot more people would stop watching. This may not have been your emotional experience, but the ending works for most people because Charlie has this seemingly clean naive plan that ends with everyone uniting and hold hands. The intent was for the audience to roll their eyes. Predictively, everything goes wrong. An ending where "just this once, everybody lives" is subversive. We still have a few seasons and don't actually know what effect that scene will have on the characters long term. This is important to address because of cancel culture. We treat people as if they're fixed instead of fluid like the worst thing they've ever done is the most important thing they've ever done. A world where people don't believe in redemption is frankly scary. Not for politicians - for your friend who had a stupid opinion. It's rarer for us to believe that people can grow/change. I can tell there's a cultural shift because it would be really easy to make fun of what I'm saying right now. There's another part of my brain that's rolling its eyes thinking about how I sound like people see Charlie and coming up with a million reasons this is dangerous as if the part of me that's talking doesn't see them perfectly well. And that's scary too. I'm hearing helplessness from everyone I know right now. Most of us are feeling more like the guy who got nuked while staring at the TV than any major character. And I deeply, profoundly appreciate a show for fully acknowledging all the evils of the world and refusing to be nihilistic about them. I'm feeling stupid for saying it but believe this is crucial: It's gonna take all of us sinners. We need you

So Vox's business proposal parallels a romantic rejection - but it occurs to me that asking to start an EMPIRE together is the professional equivalent of Vox wanting to not just marry but coparent a child. A WAY bigger commitment that would make it hard for Alastor to detach if he ever wanted to. +

I think that Lucifer and Alastor are going to be learning the lesson of no man is an island unto himself together. I think perhaps Alastor is going to be a bridge for Lucifer to develop empathy for sinners because atm he's the only one that isn't just background noise to him.
