Was it the plum pudding itself, or simply the intentional gesture? To find out, try your hand at a period-appropriate treat to commemorate the day with Maria Rundell’s 1814 recipe 👇

#AnneLister and #AnnWalker celebrated their anniversary each year on February 10, often with the recurring tradition of plum pudding and wine.

These journal excerpts from 1835 to 1840 offer us a glimpse into their ritual, which had a remarkable way of softening tensions and stirring connection.

Shibden Dale has drawn visitors from Halifax since Victorian times, when it became a popular destination for countryside walks and fresh air. The Shibden Brook runs through the valley before becoming the Red Beck at Brookfoot downstream, its name reflecting the water’s

A walk on a cold, dank, foggy morning was more than rewarded by a multitude of snowdrops and the tune of a song thrush. Lovely.

Hen Harriers and other birds of prey are still being killed illegally.

Enough is enough.

Join us and call on the UK Government to license gamebird shooting and help protect these incredible birds before it’s too late. 👇

Halifax Minster as you may not have seen it before!
It seems like a different era: an era of broken walls and spaces laid bare by slum-clearance programmes or enemy bombs. The church is the same; then it was plain Halifax Parish Church, and now it's a Minster. ......

It’s a skidding on the ice sort of day 🥶. Watching them, I felt sorry for them, though one has sensibly got onto the bank.

Wishing you all a holiday season full of joy, warmth, and adventures! We look forward to seeing you in the new year! May it be kinder to everyone and full of new opportunities for learning and connection!

Or, as #AnneLister put it: "Merry Xmas and a happy new year!" from all of us to all of you! 💛

With Anne Lister's journals, you can be Word-searching some entirely innocent, simple words and come across some right old shenanigans. Should be no surprise by now 😆

Halifax looking very festive today. It was so busy - it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves. 🥰

ICOI, Anne Lister’s coat of arms can be seen painted on the Minster ceiling, if you look closely enough!

Buxton looking festive a couple of nights ago, though The Crescent was quite sober! It might catch up soon, as there were two large Xmas trees out front, presumably waiting for some decos.

Action to take in the third post in this thread.
Last night the Government steamrollered its Planning Bill through, slamming the door on vital protections for nature.

They said it would be a ‘win-win’ for the economy and nature.

But in reality, they’ve pushed nature into last place.

Pretty fed up* during a minor car breakdown and long wait, real upsides were (1) the number of people who stopped to ask if I needed help, and (2) a group of about 10 long tailed tits flitting about the tree canopy above.

* At least it was sunny - could have been much worse!
