In 2023, an Oregon program began providing 120 homeless youth with $1,000 every month.

Two years later, 94% of participants reported they were housed.

Oregon tried giving homeless youth $1,000 a month with no strings attached. Here’s what happened
The program helped 94% of participants secure housing while building financial literacy skills that could break the cycle of homelessness.

“People who need money will lie”

Saw someone post this & I can’t wrap my head around that thinking when some of the worst people on this planet are liars and are wealthy.
People in poverty are often faced with extreme circumstances. Just give people $ &maybe life would be better for everyone.

Why do we live in a society that tends to err on the side of thinking people are liars instead of believing them when it comes to things like health needs and even sexual abuse?

Life is already difficult on this planet. Stop making it harder for people who need help.

Lmao at the scene in Game Changers when Scott tries to pay off Kip’s student loans and Kip for some batshit crazy reason says no.

That is probably the most unrealistic thing about this novel 😂

The last movie I watched with Robert Duvall was The Road (film version of the Cormac McCarthy novel). His part was short in that movie but good.

Reading the first book in the Game Changer series (about Kip and Scott) and it’s interesting to see the differences — but also scenes that were actually applied to Ilya and Shane’s story for the show instead.

It’s really sad to me how often people are kept from seeing family and friends because they don‘t have enough PTO.

I’d love to know what he considers poor or not tbh.

Why would people go around lying about this?
Holy shit he really really said this he typed this shit on the Internet i hate him so much

My post from three months ago when both me and my husband were in the depths of unemployment
Are we all supposed to just become uber drivers and substitute teachers? I’m pretty sure theres also gonna be a surplus of plasma.
February 16, 2026 at 7:49 AM
I’m tbh surprised at the shock around this plasma story. I thought people were already mostly aware of how fucked up the situation with plasma donation is. I guess I normalized it in my brain. Which isn’t good.
“There are now more places to sell plasma than there are Costco stores [in the US] — and more are popping up in solidly middle-class neighborhoods”
Is this the “golden age” economy we’ve heard so much about?

Surge pricing for plasma
How is this real life

“Donors say that the amount companies pay varies throughout the year, apparently as demand ebbs and flows. Payments tend to go down in December, for instance, when there is an uptick in people wanting to make extra money around the holidays.”

I cannot take anyone seriously who cites Nazism and the USSR as examples of why “socialism is bad.”

This is such a one-dimensional, bad-faith argument that exists to keep capitalism alive and I don’t buy it (pun intended lol)

ICE agents shouldn't wear masks. We need to know who is attacking and committing crimes. Masks undermine accountability, invite abuse, and help place perpetrators above the law.

I hope places like Bluesky won’t comply with this nonsense. It’s also important to block DHS/ICE etc. social accounts

Going from reading something as dense and brutal as Blood Meridian to reading Game Changer, a very accessible, joyous gay hockey romance novel, is quite the literary whiplash.

Me watching the two Zamboni drivers with my husband: Man aren’t there any lady Zamboni drivers?
Husband: *laughs* could be you. You need a job
February 13, 2026 at 3:49 AM
My husband and I considered this several times. I think I still get emails from one of the chains. Ridiculous to be in such a situation.
Working people should not have to sell their PLASMA to make ends meet.

In this economy, corporations and billionaires are getting richer, while working people are scraping for crumbs. A union contract is how we start to level the playing field.
Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.
