My understanding is that ‘woke’ started among African Americans and it was meant to describe enduring prejudice and racism. Today it’s meant to define everything from that, to remembering someone’s correct pronouns.

Agree. The origin was Black folks directing it towards each other saying to be aware of racial threats/the dangers of white people in the U.S. Later, it was Black people needing to "wake up" and be more politically/socially conscious. The term has been appropriated a lot, but it is "for us by us".

The Brits got the craziest names for things. I was leaving the airport in London trying to get to the city center. I asked someone how to get there. They told me to take the Piccadilly Line. I looked at them so crazy.
