Can’t win if you don’t fight. Get a new leader.
November 11, 2025 at 12:12 AM
One of the main impediments is Dem leadership + the betrayal of ALL of us this week by the Dem Senate scheme re the shutdown. This ISN'T infighting its genuine and justified outrage at what Dem Sen caucus has done. WE don't need to unify. Dem legislators need to unify around what Americans want.
3. We need to move back as soon as we can to fighting Trump, united and forceful, as the voters who gave us that big win Tuesday expect. Getting back to that fight is how we keep building momentum.

The Dem party WILL NOT WIN in November if they don't make key changes. Should not be dismissed as infighting. We all feel betrayed because we're betrayed +playing the "unity card" wont work when Dem Senators pull a scheme like this. Its not just 8- it goes deeper +many wont buy it now or in Nov.
This isn't "internal recriminations." It's voters expressing overwhelming opposition to what the people they elected to represent them are doing, and anyone--either in journalism or politics--who characterizes it as infighting is either not seeing and hearing what's right in front of them or lying.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

I'll get back to "party unity" as soon as the Senate Minority Leader tells us if he voted for the Democratic party nominee for mayor of his city.

I'm tired of party unity only ever running one way.

Please consider not using a term like "centrist" for those Cavers. It suggests that any alternative positions are extreme. The 8 are NOT reflecting the majority sentiment. Calling them centrist shifts the Overton window right. (He who controls the definition of centrist controls the yardstick.)

Hey, @schumer.senate.gov!

Americans gave you a clear assignment last Tuesday, and you didn’t understand it.

Now, we are giving you another one: Step down and allow a Democrat with a spine to unite your caucus for the good of all Americans.

Remember what you told Biden? Now, tell it to yourself.

FURIOUS at the 8 Democrats who are caving to Trump & MAGA? FLOOD THEM WITH CALLS. It’s not over till it’s over, if one of them flips, this catastrophic surrender will not take place.

And, if you can, show up at their offices.
🚨 The shutdown isn’t over. The Senate vote was a procedural step, not a deal. Nothing is reopening. Nothing is fixed. Eight Democrats helped move an old GOP bill while families go unpaid and SNAP stays frozen.

Flood the lines. Call your Senators.

Quite something. I stuck my neck out for you Sen Thune- is a Dem strategy all of a sudden???
The problem isn't that they caved for a promised vote; the problem is that the vote will be a meaningless gesture impressing no one but Senate Democrats.

It will fail. ACA beneficiaries will suffer considerably as a result and there will be no consequences of any kind for Republicans.
Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

I'm a SNAP recipient... for the last month I was tightening my belt, doing my best to eat cheaper and eating less so I'd have a little left over to help get me through when payments were cut. It was all for nothing. Fuck the dems who supported this.
I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

There will be another 60 vote Friday* on the garbage shutdown deal. If we can convince just one Senator from the 52 republicans and 8 Dems that voted yes to flip, we could still stop this. Please jump on the phone today, call them, and share this widely.

*If all goes by the regular schedule

They aren't "moderate"
Moderate suggests reasonable and fair and implies that any contrary position must be an extreme of one kind or another.
How absolutely pathetic, your voters expected you to hold the line for their basic healthcare & food benefits. This was just surrender.

Every Senate Dem that joined Republicans to pass this sold the American people out & we should make sure they have no future in public office.

In response to this claim that the "strategy didn't work."

The people were on our side. We were building momentum to help save our democracy. We could have won - the premium increase notices were just starting.

And giving in now will embolden him. Things will likely get worse.

🚨🚨Hey folks apparently we still have a chance to stop this deal but we need to get one of these 8 to flip their votes: Durbin, Rosen, Cortez Masto, King, Kaine, Fetterman, Shaheen, Hassan. If one of them is yours, please get on the phone right now and tell them to reverse their vote. 202-224-3121🚨🚨

A reminder - last March, republicans promised to restore $1.1B in funding to DC in exchange for funding the government, and Mike Johnson never took it up in the House.

I don’t care if Schumer voted no. If he’s unable to wrangle the caucus, he’s not an effective leader. I’ll continue to push for the caucus to elect a new one.

The Naivete -if he actually believes it- is stunning!
Kaine on why he thinks just getting a vote on healthcare is a win: "We're the minority party, but everybody will get to see who is standing for them when it comes to lowering their healthcare costs"

Just pointing out that Hakeem Jeffries got TWO HUNDRED AND TWELVE House Democrats to hold the line.

Not one House Democrat cracked.

Not one House Democrat caved.

I’m going to remember that.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Sanders: That is a totally meaningless gesture. You can get 100 votes here and it won't mean anything because the House is not going to take it up.
