Perpetually still figuring this part out.

Anyway, my name’s Dustin. I teach English writing and literature. My son had cancer—acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He got a bone marrow transplant in 2024 and I’m really hoping it worked. I’m a big fan of lit mags and when I write it’s usually CNF, but sometimes poetry or fiction. I’m friendly.
I keep hearing about this mythical good ol’ boy network but all I’ve ever found is the okay at best ol’ boy network.

Taste the Gazpacho, Smell the Hyacinths: Literary Transference in Memoir
By Maureen Stanton In The Art of Fiction: Notes on Craft for Young Writers, John Gardner famously wrote about the “fictive dream,” whereby writers use “images that appeal to our senses”…

This post goes out to all the party people I was staring at for five minutes while I was dissociating in the cafe today. I hope you feel seen now…because you definitely weren’t seen before.

Tbh somebody could have sent me classified war plans in a group chat too and they’d be totally safe because I always just wait for everyone to stop texting and go “sounds good 👍 “ without reading any of it because group chats suck.

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation.

I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!

I want my writing to have so damn much atmosphere that things actually burn up in it.

Me thinking of what to post: Okayyyyyy nothing super depressing or existentially terrifying.

Nothing that could get me fired.

Also make it quirky.

And original.

Nothing old, either.

Bangers only.

Never fails. I come home after teaching night class. Dog is nowhere to be found. I unwind for half an hour. Before going to bed I open the fridge and what ho—the dog appears, like, Oh hey, just came down to check on you, so what, uh, what do you think’s happening up in that cheese drawer there

Also please donate platelets 🙏 🎗️

Once, when I was throwing up on a boat, someone nudged me and said it was because of crystals in my ear. Later, when I told the story and the words “crystals in my ear” left my mouth I thought, that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever said.

Anyway damn turns out there really are ear crystals—canaliths.

narcs existed then, and narcs exist now
Ask yourself:

- Would it have been a good idea to publish the route of the Underground Railroad?

- Would it have been a good idea to do an exposé on secret, banned religious practice? Including with location data?

If you can see why the answer is "No. That could kill people," consider today.
