Just finished the brilliant 'Beast' by @luluallison.bsky.social. It is supposed to be a reread of Iris Murdoch's 'The Sea, The Sea' next, but I'm a little daunted by its heft.

A special shaming mention of the UK in this. Always worth a listen for both analysis and response.
A word about the ill desire to blame trans people or "the groups," which is wanker for trans people, for the losses in 2024.

It's a perfectly cynical excuse.

It allows you to completely elide the structural crises Dems face while bullying vulnerable people since that seems to be the kink.

46,000 words in, I have realised that my original, over-ridden instinct for in-progress book to be in the present tense, was in fact correct.

Any tips? Search all instances of personal pronouns and change what follows? Or just go line by line?

Oh my god ....

Pierre has a robbin regularly visiting him in his studio. He has named him … Rob. The age of whimsy is truly over.

Thank fuck for that, some might say.

Beast by @luluallison.bsky.social — takes the Faust myth and subverts it, making the case for transgression and for turning pain into art. It’s about more than that too, of course. Lovely book.

#Booksky this cult classic has been out of print for ages, essential read if Bukowski with a rainbow flag hanging out his arse pocket sounds like your idea of a good time but these aren't gonna stick around long. @drewgum.bsky.social is brilliant, so book yourself in for a few nights and enjoy💪📚🏳️‍🌈😀

Just remembered the time I went to visit a friend in young offenders and nearly didn't get out. As I was leaving, due perhaps to my very short hair and boyish clothes, one of the guards grabbed my shoulder, spun me around shouting 'OI!' followed by 'sorry love, thought you were one of ours.'

1. In the wake on Mamdani’s win, we’ll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Here’s a thread on its roots and evolution.

The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. 🧵

I had the world’s stupidest dream last night. In it, real-life Sunderland mid-fielder Granit Xhaka was dating a man called Mick Granits. They were planning to marry and there was well-meaning, lighthearted speculation as to whether said footballer would become known as Granit Granits.

Told you.

I agree. A book where beautiful and bonkers hit the sweet spot.
#Booksky - this cult classic was legendary in the twitter lit scene back in the day and it's been out of print for ages. Fucking brilliant book from one of the most original and versatile voices on the block. You'll need to move fast if you wanna get a copy cos these aren't gonna stick around 🦩📚
Oh… some news from Badger HQ - we’ve pressed CTRL+P to get a small run of the brilliant ‘Seven Nights at the Flamingo Hotel’ by @drewgum.bsky.social back in print!!

A book this good deserves to be available, and will hopefully serve as a springboard for new titles in 2026!! 🤞🏼
