The FF12 HD remaster is so interesting because it is one of the most different from its source material games in that franchise, though the story is the same. (And they couldn't redo some of the more larger to tackle issues)

Since it is that time of year, though there are some indie games not out yet, here's my "Good Games I played this year in no order" list:

1. Nightreign
2. TiTS 1st Chapter
3. Xanadu Next
4. MH Wilds
5. Barony
6. Clair Obscur
7. Scrandle

Smh Scrandle not even up for GOTY? What a joke smh.

Im going through the old FFXI strategy guide, and theres multiple pages explaining how to roleplay. I wonder what % of responsibility this has for raise macros continuing to exist decades later

look the use of AI generated stuff in CoD is gross yes, but have you also considered that its specifically gross to rip off studio ghibli in a franchise that is arguably one of the most influential pieces of war propaganda in modern times

You know I was kind of w/e on a steam box since I already have a gaming pc set up to a TV, but when I go to play a game on it and the system has restarted for an update, turning copilot back on and yelling at me to update to 11, certainly its pushing me to be more interested in the steam thing.

Fill in the blank:

Before you pick your Game of the Year, make sure you play _______

The Steam Box thing is one of those things that I doubt I will buy, but I hope does well enough to push the ecosystems its related to forward.

Even from just a fans purely selfish standpoint, the move from human translators to ML is going to/has been lowering the quality of things to a noticeable degree.

Just this year there have been a few games that make my mind go "that sounds robotic" or where the prose just was awkward and bad.

I wrote more words about how it feels to be a translator watching the games press report on AI and labor, coming from a field that's fought these battles for decades. It may look like I'm beating up on one outlet, but it's not about them; I've been trying to write this for me and my peers all year.
You Can't Report on Hunger While Taking Bread Off the Table
On the proliferation of machine translation in video game outlets covering the effects of AI on labor.

Thinking about replaying FFXII again (to hold off my desire to redo the entirety of FFXI again), and its amazing both how many mods there are and how recent they are for that game.

Every time I see an HD2D thing It looks like those HD Upscaled Texture packs that people make for Emulators.

I need a Legends of Localization style breakdown/comparison blog but for like old ass Manga from Del-Ray or w/e. I would probably be the only audience for this but I am wildly curious.

After playing Z-A I went to go boot up Arceus and play through that and see if I just had built up in my mind. There are def some QoL things Z-A did that I had forgotten with Arceus, but other than those man Arceus rules as a game lol

I have a suspicion that more than half of the work that goes into Blowback is figuring out the exact right old audio clip to drop with the intro song every episode.

Thinking bout two of the games I played this year that had $120 ultimate editions. Or the pokemon game where you gotta pay $30 for a mega Raichu, and have an online account to finish your mega pokedex.

I finished listening to Blowback Season 6 and that is a good show, well worth the subscription for it.

Wild Hearts was a good video game.

Hit credits on Z-A and my initial thoughts are that I kind of want to either replay Arceus or Monstrum Nox somehow XD.

It's a fine game, but in the context of Arceus its a bit of a bummer to me. In comparison to a traditional pokemon its fine? better than Scarlet/Violet worse than Sword/Shield
October 20, 2025 at 10:04 PM
As someone who would rank Arceus as like one of the best Pokemon games of all time, I think so far Z-A is really disappointing if I view it as a follow up to that game. If I ignore that and just treat it as open world thing it seems fine, though over stuffed, but man.
