A miniature roadside attraction; a radically democratic experimental museum...a temporary home for small yet beloved works of art. I'll update this feed as it evolves, and will also be sharing it here: https://www.rickhardenworks.com/littleroadsidemuseum
Love this. Grateful to all the folks who “refuse to believe that what exists defines what is possible” and specifically to the artist who help us in instantiate our dreams for a better world.
"Artists know that you only have to do something once to prove to others that the unimaginable is actually very much possible." Read @hrag.bsky.social's powerful essay on artistic creative imagination and Mamdani's election. hyperallergic.com/1055167/the-...

Great thread. This part may be the most directly relevant for artists:“This is how you visually dismantle fascist iconography.” #HOP, #NoKings
And from image events, we get POLYSEMIC images that carry multiple forms of ideology into the present. Here, we have the convergence of Shepard Fairey's iconic HOPE poster for the Obama campaign with the frog icon from #NoKings. The is how you visually dismantle fascist iconography.

A new initiative uniting artists and cultural institutions across the country has emerged to address a shared question: In the wake of the Trump administration’s tightening grip on the arts, what could and should be their role?

This story reminded me how much I adore Edward Gorey, and
A friend of Edward Gorey said the artist “journeyed vastly between his ears.” It’s this mysterious depth that caught the imagination of subsequent generations of goths, steampunks, and artists like Tim Burton.
Edward Gorey Killed His Darlings
A show at the Society of Illustrators demonstrates his mastery at turning ghastly scenarios deadpan and winkingly absurd.

Native artists are staging an unsanctioned exhibition at the Met’s American Wing, using digital tools to layer Indigenous writing and imagery over artworks that erase their existence from the American landscape.
Indigenous Artists Reclaim The Met’s American Wing
An unsanctioned exhibition uses AR to insert works by Native artists, like Cannupa Hanska Luger and Jeremy Dennis, into the museum’s 19th-century landscapes.

This morning the universe has me thinking about the importance of investing in art as a policy choice. And also, the sort of radical role of art and creativity in moments of fascist slide…

You NEED to listen to pre-eminent conductor and musician Leonard Slatkin tell us what we MUST do, right now, to protect the arts and to stand up for what is right.
It was an emotional, inspiring moment last evening, 9/28/25.

Gutted at the news that Kaleb Horton is gone. Kaleb was a brilliant writer, of course, but he was also a gifted photographer. Years ago I encouraged him to sell his pieces. His work was so good, I told him, and people should see it.

Here are some of his beautiful shots.

Transforming walls. "The mural Abrazo Mutuo...was painted in 2025 on the Mexican side of the border...by artist Alfredo “Libre” Gutiérrez...and shows an eagle and a condor flying together, symbolizing North and South America...the mural represents unity and balance between cultures."

Functional and beautiful. Also makes one wonder who would have purchased these in the late 1800s, and at what scale…
Beautiful 1860s Victorian butterfly, which was used to store small packets of sewing needles on the underside of the wings. This was a collaboration between a London-based drapers company and a sewing needle manufacturer. On exhibit at Tatter Blue, a Brooklyn textile museum.

Love this so much. One of my favorite forms of art: murals. So much of art is about transforming one thing into another (which is so powerful and hopeful), but for some reason with murals it always hits me harder.
