UPDATE: I've been in touch with Arturo's friends and band-mates. He gets one phone call every other day — he seemed to be in good spirits yesterday.

Arturo is being held and has not been officially charged yet. DA has I think another 36 hours to decide on charges.

For anyone still wondering about Arturo Gamboa, he is a second generation Venezuelan in America, part of a leftist punk band called Rade in Salt Lake City. Here's the pictures of one of his band's EPs.

This morning, the national 50501 account posted a statement on Bluesky praising the actions of their "volunteer member of the protest safety team", calling the shooting victim a "depraved and disturbed domestic terrorist."

They have since deleted their post and have not issued a followup statement

The armed, yellow-vested "peacekeepers" at the Utah 50501 protest in Salt Lake City opened fire into a crowd, hitting two people:

A Sāmoan fashion designer with two young kids, who died.

A second-generation Venezuelan immigrant and antiracist protester who was legally carrying. Cops charged HIM.

I don't say this to downplay the protests. It's great to see people out there. What I am saying is that if people think peaceful protest once a month waiving a few signs will topple or hamstring the regime, they're sorely mistaken. You need something like euromaidan to put a stop to this.

Do those people claiming 11-12 million protestors have a source? I think it'd be great to find that many people out and about, just curious.

Arturo Gamboa did nothing wrong. Video clearly shows that he was calmly walking with a legal open carry weapon on public property when 'peacekeepers' shot at him, a Venezuelan anti-ICE advocate, hitting him and killing a random bystander. @utah50501.bsky.social has to be held accountable for this.
