Watching S1E2 of ST:TOS and it is so jarring to watch it after 3 seasons of SNW! But also, it fits perfectly with the TOS (w/ VOY crossover) novel I'm reading at the moment.

There's a sudden thought. What if Cleopatra VII had sided with Octavian instead of Mark Anthony?
Huh.

I just got home from work and had to look up "what does the Sun smell like?" because that question suddenly occured to me.

The answer seems to be likely nothing.

I just got attacked by the Moopsy.

Episode 1 of Mackenzie Crook's new drama/comedy Small Prophets done. As one expects from Crook, it's very slow-paced and with a very dry sense of humour, and there's a very pervasive air of melancholia over it. I did enjoy it, and it made me think of a retired colleague (who Michael reminds me of).

I am watching The Astronaut and so far it is okay but the wrong NASA logo is bugging me.

Seem to hit a bit of a reading block already this year. May need to regroup.

Today's Starfleet Academy was good, albeit a little long and handwavey, but also quite dark and heavy.

It's gonna sit a little, I think.

I was listening to Muna on my way to work and whilst I enjoy then it was bothering me a little how I just didn't "get" Silk Chiffon or What I Want. They almost might as well be in a different language.

Sit right back and you'll hear a tale. A tale of a fateful trip that started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship...

Just finished Breathers by Justin Madson, an omnibus collecting every issue and covers of his series.
I didn't know what to expect, but it was a pretty interesting read. Certainly cannot be read as it was intended in a post-COVID world, but that makes it better in a way.

This afternoon I have watched two anime episodes.

Unrelated but still daddish:

Why do the French make omelettes with only one egg?

Because they all know that one egg is un œuf.
I can’t remember how to write 1, 1000, 51, 6 and 500 in Roman numerals.

Tonight's Movie Night pick was Rush, a Formula 1 movie about the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, told largely from Lauda's perspective.

I don't know quite how dramatised it was, it was certainly A Bit Chesty too, but it was gripping viewing and it went by very quickly.

I don't know if to have Movie Night or not tonight. I can't think of any I particularly want to watch.

Finished Creatures of Ava, a game @alicehancock.bsky.social recommended to me.

It isn't quite what I expected, it's an action-adventure crossed with puzzles and no combat (as such, you don't defeat anything), but the story is greaat and very thought-provoking. Had no idea it was Rhianna Pratchett!

That is me done with Annie Jacobsen's Nuclear War: A Scenario.

Probably the single most terrifying book I have ever read in my life.

Does anyone else get really fucked off with the trans meme content that either shows trans people as hypersexual or has all these "signs of transness" and they're so ridiculous and exclusionary?

One meme implied I wasn't trans because I don't poison myself with energy drinks.

There's a costuming change in Episode 4 of SFA that had me squealing for various reasons. Be interested to know if anyone else picked up on it.

Pardon the pun but Annie Jacobson's Nuclear War: A Scenario sure opens with a bang.

And finished! Really enjoyed it but it was also very educational, and discussed real-world issues in a mature but understandable way.

Saadia's voice for Kamala feels genuine too, it felt like I was reading a G. Willow Wilson-authored comic, she got the voice that correct.
I read a bit more of Ms. Marvel: Remnants of the Past by Saadia Faruqi this evening and I am really enjoying it. I feel like Saadia really gets Kamala and her friends & family, and I really vibe with Kamala's sense of justice.

It is also educational as I am having to look up Urdu and Arabic terms.

One of my favourite trilogies concludes with this! I do highly recommend these books.
Two different sales going on in the same week?! It's more likely than you think!!

THE INFINITE is going for $1.99 on Kindle this week. If you've been wanting to read the epic conclusion to the Outside series but haven't yet, now is your chance!
