3rd November 1943. Victoria Cross action of Flt/Lt William ‘Bill’ Reid, then aged 22. Pilot of a 61 Squadron Lancaster tasked with bombing Düsseldorf, Reid’s aircraft was attacked by a Bf 110 night fighter soon after crossing the Dutch coast.
