Wool stabber, Nature advocate, I like birds a lot. 4th generation in Hawai'i.
1. 'Akohekohe without hair and makeup.
2. 'Akohekohe with hair and makeup.
(Yes, it is the same bird) 😂

Here's a pair of Moli (Laysan Albatrosses) that I made recently. It is impossible to make these "miniature."
Also, if your area has an election this coming week, VOTE, and NOT for GOP!

Hope you had a chance to go to the Hawaii Island Festival of Birds this weekend? Almost 90% of my birds were sold out in half an hour after opening time. 🤯 Here is a pic of my table before opening.

See you tomorrow!
🪶✨ See you tomorrow at the Hawaiʻi Island #FestivalOfBirds!

Since its beginning, the HIFB Bird Fair has been a stage for talented local artisans 🎨 who weave native birds into their work & for conservation groups + wildlife agencies 🐦🌿 working hard to protect Hawaiʻi species.

My last birds for Birdfest Hawaii are done! The extinct Hawai'i Mamo was revered by the Ali'i for their golden yellow feathers.
At Birdfest, prices are higher than last time. Supply is extremely limited. See comments for more info.

This is not on the #AvianAugust list but it is similar. Hawai'i 'O'o went extinct long before Kauai 'O'o - some time in the 1920's. The yellow feather capes of the Ali'i were made from the 'O'o yellow feathers. Thousands of them. #AvianAugust2025 #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #FiberArt #SciArt #BirdArt

Here are pictures of my glass Pueo owl mosaic before and after lightly being (tack) fused together.

This makes all the tiny glass shards into one solid piece and keeps the detail better than full fusing.

There are fewer than 900 Palila left in the world, all living in the dry Mamane forests of the Big Island, and Mamane seeds are one of their only food sources. Feral sheep and goats have decimated these trees.

'Ula-'ai-Hawane means "red bird that eats the fruit of the Hawane (Loulu) palm". Was found only near Hilo, Kona, and Kohala regions on the Big Island. Extinct as of the late 1800's or early 1900's. #AvianAugust #AvianAugust2025 #SciArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #FiberArt #BirdArt

Husband trying! Does not do felt but does do glass. ☺️ Needs encouragement.
Finishing up a small owl, glass mosaic. I will tack fuse it together (the only grout is clear glass frit).

It has plenty of personality and will look great as a suncatcher. Used the native pueo markings, they have cool dark lines around the eyes.

Kiwikiu are down to fewer than 200 individuals left on just 12 sq miles of range on Maui. Conservation efforts are underway but always hampered by science deniers. Just say NO to science deniers. #AvianAugust #AvianAugust2025 #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #SciArt #FiberArt #BirdArt

'Akiapola'au uses its thick lower beak to strike branches like a woodpecker and then uses its thin curved upper beak to pry the bugs out. Only a small number of these is left on Hawaii Island. Conservation is important #AvianAugust #AvianAugust2025 #SciArt #BirdArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #FiberArt

Hawaii 'Elepaio! These adorable native Hawaiian flycatchers announce their arrival before you can even see them in the trees. It's no wonder why they're called 'Elepaio-which sounds like the call they make. #AvianAugust #AvianAugust2025 #SciArt #BirdArt #FiberArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt

'Akohekohe for #AvianAugust . This native Hawaiian bird sometimes sounds like a bird and sometimes sounds like a frog. Critically endangered and only found in a limited habitat on Maui. Support conservation. Science deniers sluck. #AvianAugust2025 #SciArt #BirdArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #FiberArt

'Oma'o is found only on Hawaii Island. If you hear a police whistle and you're all alone in the mountain forest, that's an 'Oma'o. If you're all alone and whistling for help, others might think you're just an 'Oma'o. #AvianAugust2025 #AvianAugust #SciArt #NatureArt #WildlifeArt #BirdArt #birds

'Akepa is a species of crossbill now only found in a small region on Hawaii Island. Males are bright orange and females are often overlooked because they are gray. Numbers are dwindling and conservation is essential. #AvianAugust2025 #AvianAugust #SciArt #natureart #wildlifeart #fiberart #birdart

'Akikiki may have gone extinct in the wild this year. Hoping that a captive population can one day be released back in the wild like the 'Alala. Science deniers are blocking efforts to succeed. Conspiracy theorists make everyone lose.
