If the government were to provide a million extra homes, as proposed by the Greens, with an annual subsidy of $15k each (the public housing average), that would cost $15 billion a year.
@richarddenniss.bsky.social says this is simple. I see big complications.

Fixing the housing crisis isn’t complicated, governments just don’t want to do it
The easiest way to boost the supply of housing in Australia would be for governments to build new houses. And the easiest way to provide affordable rental accommodation would be to rent the new govern...

pathetic!
At this stage no one has actually shown that Anika Wells has done anything wrong but the savagery of the media pile on is enough for some loons to justify horrendous, and potentially dangerous, attacks on one of our democratically elected representatives.

Totally disgraceful.

'Pig-headed' is the way Terry Carney, of Robodebt fame, describes the response of the Department of Employment to the second Commonwealth Ombudsman report into their error-riddled privatised jobseeker compliance program. You can see why for yourself here. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/politic...
‘Particularly strange’: Ombudsman damns welfare compliance
In an interview with The Saturday Paper, the Commonwealth ombudsman says government departments still need to ‘unlearn’ the culture that produced robodebt.

The fact I can’t buy one of these in Australia - or even the hybrid version - and we give tax breaks to drive giant SUVs is nuts. (TBC I don’t want a tax break.)
Trump’s kind of right. We should make smaller “kei-cars” here. Imagine if you could buy a $15k-$20k EV here, like Japan’s best-selling Sakura.

Smaller cars, smaller batteries, lower costs, less mining, more mobility. Better road partners for bikes & buses.

This $15,000 Nissan Kei Car Is Japan's Best-Selling EV
It's nice to see a cheap car winning. Unfortunately, though, Nissan probably wouldn't have too much luck selling it here. Americans hate small cars.

I think it’s weird that we begrudge our elected representatives their salary, their travel, their staff & pensions, all of which is BELOW “market level”, when we should be making them regulate multi-million $ executive “REM”, private jets, bonuses paid out while sacking workers & marble CEO offices!

The big reason electricity cost so much is gas. Gas is the most expensive form of electricity generation (aside from battery) and yet often determines the price.

Tax gas exports, raise $17bn, help compensate households and also fund the transition to zero emissions

Can the media reporting on news that the US agrees it is “worth continuing” with AUKUS, stop pretending that it’s some sort of big surprise that Trump agrees it’s worth taking our billions of taxpayer dollars for second rate submarines they don’t even have to provide?🙄

Her crime, per ICE — she didn’t roll down her window far enough.

All of this…because they couldn’t be bothered to check her ID.

What are we doing? Why are these gestapo tactics being allowed to continue?
