Conservation organisations in the Netherlands are advancing plans to explore the reintroduction of Dalmatian Pelican, a move that could see the species return to parts of its former range after an absence of several hundred years:
Dutch consider Dalmatian Pelican reintroduction
Conservation groups in the Netherlands are progressing plans to reintroduce Dalmatian Pelican to suitable wetland habitats, potentially restoring a former native species that disappeared in the Middle Ages.

Tracking has revolutionized the study of migratory birds - shorebirds included! 🐦
In this paper, we explore the global and historical patterns of tracking effort on these birds, and suggests some species that would benefit from future tracking efforts

How do juvenile ravens find social groups?

We describe how juvenile common ravens, who have left their natal territories seeking to join non-breeder flocks, use space with respect to other birds, and discuss what this means for social integration.

An excellent weekend on patch started yday morning at the island where I picked up a distant Grebe in flight which promptly landed and disappeared. Half an hour of frustration this stonking Red-necked Grebe appeared below us (pic @lobb66.bsky.social) - an absolute patch mega! #PWC2026 #UKbirding

Interesting day yesterday - good St Ives seawatch with @liamlangley1.bsky.social who, in 20 mins, found, lost & refound a Red-necked Grebe. Merlin then thought I’d found a RB Gull … & finally I found a male Marsh Harrier nr Madron which might be the same one seen at Marazion

Following the insanity of Storm Goretti expectations were high at St Ives Island this morning: 6 Manx, 15 Fulmar, 3 RTD, 9 GND and 3 Common Scoter was a slightly underwhelming return. A smart 2CY male Black Redstart flicking around this evening was a nice 2 pointer though! #PWC2026 #UKBirding
