LRP I think I walked by a lot of standing casts in the Natural History museum, but the one that took my breath away was this giant Rhomaleosaurus cast just on the wall...

The Ward Scientific Company sold these Rhomaleosaurus casts to various museums starting in 1866 (for $150). The original at the National Museum of Ireland was broken up with sledgehammers during a move in the 1920s. #FossilFriday

Blue jays are always around here but I don’t always observe them. This one found a corn niblet and posed for my reference photo. Sketched it fast with 0.5mm 4B + 0.3mm 2B Pentel Graphgear, plus a blender to bring the forest floor into focus at the end. Jays mimic hawks. Wild. #birds #sciart #drawing

Four species of cetacean can be found in the Seridic wetlands. Only the Seridic river dolphin (top) is a permanent resident. The other three (estuarine dolphin, river whale, and Crescent narwhal) venture with high waters during the wet season then retreat to estuaries and the gulf during dry months.

Then I found out today that they're related. 😂 So I guess rambutan should be called 'unruly lychee' from now on?

Cyanolipids—fatty acids with a CN group—are found in seed oils of some Sapindaceae. Some are cyanogenic & can release cyanide. Rambutan has cyanolipids, but they are NOT cyanogenic. Reassuring if you’ve ever accidentally swallowed a seed! 📷: Nephelium lappaceum Forest & Kim Starr CCBY2 #Botany 🌾🧪
