Even more basically: greed. There's no profit to be had (at least, not millions or billions worth) in solving poverty, providing healthcare for all, abolishing prisons, ending racism (or misogyny or homophobia), or many other good things. Keeping things terrible for us = $$ in their pockets.
Guys, it's the oligarchs. If you want to blame someone for 2024, blame the oligarchs. Anyone telling you to blame someone else is part of the oligarchy. Dark money has been to blame since citizens united.
