Should you post your comics on Reddit?

If you can find your niche, you can reach a huge audience. If not, you may get lost in the waves and waves of comics that are little more Reddit-y.

Either fate speaks ill or good only of Reddit and not your comic.

Some days I look back and feel like I have really changed … but some days I am pretty happy drawing comics and listening to power metal.

New comic done! Will post soon and within #poetrycomicsmonth, but first I need to recover ...

I am seeking that rarest of rarities - the comics page that looks good in any format, including mobile and print. Is it a fool's errand? Does it exist? #makemanga #makecomics

With the next comic taking over a month to finish, the message in my last comic has taken on some unwanted irony ...

Luckily I have only one more page (of 8!) to finish and I am confident I can get it done within #poetrycomicsmonth.
Make something, finish it

This is really cool and useful! #makecomics #makemanga

Though I do wish that some of the names were easier to remember (like "repeated panels" instead of "epizeuxis") ...

Bravo! This is really impressive.

Highly recommended, and not long until it closes! Try reading this one in bed in the dark on a tablet device, for a truly terrible night’s sleep.

Filled up a lot of sketchbook pages on another plane journey. A little sad and predictable that I am at my most productive when the internet is literally inaccessible.

If you're looking to resize for mobile viewing, converting it to greyscale is normal.

Incremental scaling into 85% of the original size till you get to your target size is how people once did it.

You can also tone in greyscale, resize, and then convert to dot tone using this ClipStudio function.

I forgot that character design is just as much work whether the character appears in 3 pages or 300 …

There is so much talent on offer at @shortboxcomicsfair.bsky.social that I've had to rely on social media recs to decide what to get. So if you're in the same spot, for your consideration ... 🧵

A 4 page comic about drawing, made for the Portland Public Library's new exhibition, "Why We Make Comics: Reflections on Storytelling"

If you live in Portland ME, you can see this comic, as well as 3 others by other cartoonists, on display starting October 6! www.portlandlibrary.com/lewis-gallery/

I unironically love this comment from someone on Reddit who lasered in on the thinly veiled Warhammer reference in the first few panels, and ignored the rest of the comic. For what it's worth, I agree.

While I work out how to post the new comic, let's revisit a little 4koma phase I went through exactly one year ago.

Oof, after all that fun with screentones, I may just have to export them as gray. Too hard to account for all of the platforms and devices that will do their own resizing, which creates a high risk that the tones will look awful. Webcomics are hard ...

Do you remember Bongcheon-Dong Ghost? That webtoon from around 2011 that scared the pants of off everyone who saw it? Good news: There's plenty more where that came from. Here's a look inside the eerie world of webtoon artist Horang. theghostinmymachine.com/2023/10/09/b...
Beyond “Bongcheon-Dong Ghost”: Inside The Eerie Webtoon World Of Korean Horror Master Horang
In 2011, the eerie webtoon "Bongcheon-Dong Ghost" went viral - but there's so much more to artist and writer Horang's work than just this one comic.

The new comic will feature the same character at five different ages. It was slow going having to come up with so many designs (one for each page), but it was a fun challenge ... that I'm glad is over with.

I finished the holiday comic! That's a relief because it is called 'Make something, finish it'.

Drawing a comic idea I came up with on holiday. It will unlock a number of achievements for me, because it will:

- be done in comic pages instead of individual images
- be entirely in screentone
- rhyme (mostly)

I've been back from holidays for a bit, and getting back into the habit of creating has been tough.

I think I'm finally finding my feet again after mucking around with some fountain pens I bought overseas.

I worked very, very hard on this so I’m excited for it to come out! It’s 248 pages and printed at a bigger size than the last ones.
