Writer of TV, a graphic novel, and sometimes a substack. I like history but am a fan of not repeating it. Unrealist.

This is full of mildly astonishing revelations about right-wing influence at the BBC, but foremost among them is the fact that he was advised that writing for the New Statesman was effectively unacceptable but doing so for the Spectator was fine - indeed, advisable. I am flabbergasted.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

Objections to this east end entrance to the necropolis seem ott to me. “It’ll be the end of it!!” 🤔 Do I detect some snobbery about letting in the east end folk? We’re not all prostitutes and junkies honestly. And already hemmed in by the hospital and the motorway. Gies peace to take a walk!
New Dennistoun Digest out this morning, covering:

- Eastern Entrance of the Necropolis consultation events 🚶‍♀️
- HMP Glasgow & it's need for better public transport 🚍
- Reform's "Sharia Law" sham claims

I'm saddened to learn of the passing of Dr Elspeth King, the legendary curator of the People's Palace, and a fierce advocate for Glasgow and its history.

This was fascinating on the release of the film adaptation of Alasdair Gray's "Poor Things".

Ever wondered where all the Cheers title photos are from? I did. And I've gathered everything I can find into this post. That was fun.

I visited Kirkcudbright for the first time with its lovely art gallery. Seems like a haven for female artists such as Jesse M King.

As it’s impossible to see a woman over 40 achieve anything, it’s good to use art to imagine it.
Glasgow’s latest mural, located at 1198 Govan Road, depicts and honours Mary Barbour who brought together tenants from Govan and Partick to campaign for rent freezes during the First World War.

Designed by artist Jeks and commissioned by SWG3’s Yardworks GRID and the LHA.

I had a wee chat with a stranger today because I stopped and took a pic of this mural. It’s at the maternity hospital where my daughter was born. We both talked about how much we like it. It made a sunny day brighter.
