Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop!

Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels
"No Kings Day" protests turn out millions
Our unofficial estimate is that around 4 million people attended a protest event yesterday. Anti-Trump resistance is outpacing 2017.

I just like to post these data from time to time to puncture the mythological aura of mid 20th c protests. They were less popular than pretty much any 21st c mass action & people criticizing them used the same lines. Protest is about people coming together, shaping narratives, & building power.

The Senate bill aims to effectively end all civil rights lawsuits against the federal government except by entities rich enough to potentially pay million/billions in fees.

I am not making this up.

Been saying this for weeks. In order to build a mass deportation machine to round up and deport 4% of the entire goddamn population, you must first build the police state.

The total lack of concern or awareness from these people that they have just participated in unprecedentedly illegal, unconstitutional, destructive activities that have killed people & dismantled essential public functions suggests they are not only arrogant & ignorant schmucks, but also sociopaths.
What a way to describe a 4-month period that will lead to 25+ million deaths worldwide.

Hard not to notice that ICE isn't breaking up drug rings or gangs (because we would ABSOLUTELY hear about it if they were), but instead are dressing up like bank robbers and doing the laziest shit possible, like hanging out at immigration court or grabbing people for busted taillights. Worthless

I said it would get worse very quickly. By tomorrow we will have completed the most dangerous & frightening 24 hours thus far of Trump 2.0. Just to name a few:
1. Defiance of a court order by sending migrants to Sudan without due process (despite clear DP decision SCOTUS) & Dist. CT. order.

In February 2020, active news readers were aware of the coming pandemic but not the mass public.

I’m getting the same sense of dread about how the trade wars are gonna hit the U.S. economy over the next few months unless Trump figures out an artful way to capitulate.

It’s astonishing to me how many people don’t seem to grasp this.
Right because they are not running for re-election. I don’t know how else to say this.

They. Aren’t. Running. For. Reelection.
I think what’s most striking about the last few months is how rarely anyone in the GOP applies this simple test. A lot of checks and balances rely on this kind of worrying about precedent but it’s now totally absent, as if they don’t think they’ll ever be out of power again.

Just want to point out that regardless the rationale behind tariffs or the lack thereof, if you happen to know every time tariffs are going to be announced and each time they are going to be paused, you are making a whole lot of money right now.

Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"
